This was my first time reading a Brenda L. Thomas novel, and I really enjoyed her refreshing writing style and plot development. It was like reading a mystery - there were secrets that had to be discovered as you continued through the story and that element kept me turning the pages. Every Woman's Got a Secret by Brenda L. Thomas takes into the life of Caroline Issacs, the veejay of Top of Da Charts. The producers wanted to do something different with the show to boost ratings, but every idea was as dry as the Las Vegas desert. Along came Mari Colonada, the twenty-one year-old, interviewing to be Caroline's intern for the summer.

Mari pitched the idea that would put the show on the top of the charts, and have the fans lining up to be a part of the show. They were going on the road with Top of Da Charts, starting in Vegas and ending in Philly, the home town of Caroline. She would be there just in time for her father's retirement party.

Caroline, Mari, and the crew from the show, loaded a fully-equipped RV and on the road they went. This road trip allowed Mari and Caroline to get the chance to develop a closer friendship that goes beyond the working relationship. But Caroline noticed there were certain topics that were blown-off by Mari every time she brought it up. Being the person who was able to get much needed information from her guests on the show, she tried all things, but to no avail; Mari never shared.

Every Woman's Got a Secret offers a few twists that are very predictable; sex, and death. However, once the action started the book became a quick read. There were some editing errors, but overall the book was well-written. I recommend this to a reader that likes the fast-life of celebrities with a little mystery tied into it.

I thought this was a really good book. It was well written, and you could really relate to the character, b/c they seemed like everyday people. The book has a really surprising twist, that will probably piss you off, but overall it was great.

It was like reading a mystery - there were secrets that had to be discovered as you continued through the story and that element kept me turning the pages. I also like that Brenda has a knack for not overly describing everything. There's just enough description to give you a quick visual, then she moves the story along. Sex scenes are strong (smile) and overall, the book is a nice, quick and easy read.

Caroline Isaacs a.k.a Linney is the young beautiful host of Top Da Charts. Being use to having a silver spoon it was not a surprise that the job of a hot new show landed right into her lap. While balancing her job and love life, Linney is in search of an intern to help put things in perspective.

Mari is like a breath of fresh air. Bringing new and innovative ideas to the table Mari gives Linney a chance to approach and land a whole new audience as they hit the road and ready for action.

As Linney enjoys the people and being on the road with her crew, one of her own has a special surprise that is sure to land Linney in the number one spot.

Brenda brought twists and turns to what started off as an ordinary read. By the middle of the book I knew what to expect but was still impressed by how Brenda was able to bring everything together. I don't think this was one of the better reads by Brenda but it was still enough to make me add this to my Brenda collection.

Brenda's latest creation is smart, fun, fast-paced, whitty and sexy. You will love Linney and her cast of characters and peer into the life of a hot, young TV personality and get a glimpse of the beauty that is Philadelphia. The story is sexy without being smutty, fun without being silly, and has just the right amount of fantasy (not foolishness) mixed in. Linney is young, smart and successful. I wanted to be in her circle! Kudos to Brenda for giving us another winner and taking us on a tour of our wonderful city.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Read!, March 21, 2007
This review is from: Every Woman's Got a Secret (Paperback)
This book was worth the read, wasn't quite the page turners we all love and look forward to, though it has it's moments. Some parts are a bit over done but for an overall review I would lend my copy to friends to read instead of urging them to purchase their own copy!

Caroline "Linney" Isaacs is on top of the world. She has a great job on a top rated television show playing music videos and interviewing stars, a loving boyfriend, and a supportive family behind her. While interviewing an intern to help out with her television show, she meets Mari Colonada, a smart young girl who loves everything television and radio and seems like the perfect fit. Mari seals the deal when she suggests Caroline take her show to the next level by turning it into a road trip. With everyone on board, the group takes off on a cross country road trip that creates a tight friendship between Caroline and Mari. Everything starts out well, but that soon changes. Determined to figure out why things are going downhill Caroline begins to search for answers. When she finds out the real reason why her life is on a downward spiral she is forced to face a secret she isn't prepared for, one that turns her life upside down and has deadly results.

Building the story upon lies, jealousy, and deceit, Brenda Thomas has written a page-turner that kept my interest from beginning to end. The plot is well thought-out and developed in a way that the reader is not able to immediately guess the outcome. Her characters are well-rounded and there is even an appearance by a character from Thomas' previous novels. She writes with detail in a way that makes this a perfect novel to be turned into a film. In EVERY WOMAN'S GOT A SECRET, someone is holding back, but it may not be the person you think.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Road Trip, January 22, 2007
This review is from: Every Woman's Got a Secret (Paperback)
Linney is a typical black 24 year old female spoiled in her ways with more than she can handle. She thought she had it all and had the perfect life. Her man, Julius, is handsome, smart, and most important, wealthy.

Linney is the host of a hot hip-hop show "Off Da Charts" where she engages in meeting hot new stars and rating the hottest music videos. In need of a spark for ratings and to make more money for her company, she hires Mari, her intern for the summer, to bring new ideas and assist her throughout the summer. For promotional purposes, Linney decides to take her show on the road for the summer. She then sees and does things that she never imagined. Will she be able to maintain her reputation for her viewers? We know every woman's got a secret, but will Linney's secrets be revealed during this road trip?

I give Brenda three stars for this book. I think it could have been a little bit more exciting in addition to some twists to spice up the end. I will continue to read Brenda's books, because she has the ability to create some awesome books. Threesome, Fourplay, and The Velvet Rope were great!

3.0 out of 5 stars Shhh, January 22, 2007
This review is from: Every Woman's Got a Secret (Paperback)
Caroline "Linney" Issacs is riding high off of the success of her show Off Da Charts. She is the hottest veejay around. Success breeds jealousy and envy. Someone wants what Caroline has and will stop at nothing to get it.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect with Every Woman's Got a Secret. Let me explain...I loved Threesome. Told everyone that would listen to read it. Eagerly anticipated Fourplay (what a title!). Fourplay let me down as it didn't bring the fire of Threesome. Then that was followed up with The Velvet Rope that put me on the fence with Brenda. I try not to compare all of an author's work to one particular novel that stood out, but at this point, I couldn't help but compare and wondered what in the world happened. Along came Four Degrees of Heat and Brenda's stock was on the rise. Now that brings us to Every Woman's Got a Secret. Hesitate yet hoping for the best, I cracked it open and started reading. Sadly, I was let down again. It's not a bad book, but it was slow, predictable and somewhat unrealistic as everything just happened to fall into place. The beginning is the end so readers know what to expect, but I was hoping for more in the form of events leading up to it. Drama was minimal and the sex scenes were reaching. One situation was down right nasty. There wasn't anything sexy or erotic about it.

Not bad, but this book was far from good. The elements were there with the premise of the story, intriguing title and suggestive cover. Somewhere in the execution, it fell off. I'm not looking for a repeat of Threesome, but I'd like the drama, intensity and sexiness of it. Brenda, where you at girl? You did it before, I know you can do it again. I'm waiting on the next one.
