Every Young Woman's Battle,

This review is from: Every Young Woman's Battle Workbook: How to Pursue Purity in a Sex-Saturated World (The Every Man Series) (Paperback)
This book is very relevant and current for teens. It is direct and accurate according to the Bible It is sometimes over the top and needs to take into account the reality of living in the real world, but I like that it puts the high standard out there.

Warning to any parents interested in using this book for their child: The Language is VERY frank, there is no beating around the bush, and there is definately no hesitance to use descriptive words when dealing with sexual matters. This book is just what our generation needs! I was amazed at how, let's just say blunt, the auther was, but also very estatic. Bluntness is what we teens need. A lot of adults don't realize that. I'm glad Shannon Ethridge did! If it's time for you, as a parent, to have the "talk" with your daughter, I very much suggest using this book. I have told all my distant relations and other men and women that I know, that they NEED to have their daughters read this book! It is a real eye opener, and the best part, if your daughter is struggling with some sort of sexual temptation, this book won't preach at her, only help her overcome her weakness! The book very clearly states, that ALL women face sexual temptation sooner or later, and this book helps teach you the key to overcoming! I cannot say enough how much this book has helped me, a teenager, alone and I really hope you'll have your daughter read it as well!

A workbook that rocks,
This review is from: Every Young Woman's Battle Workbook: How to Pursue Purity in a Sex-Saturated World (The Every Man Series) (Paperback)
A great accompaniment to the book. The topics and explanation lead to a great discussion. And all that leads to the Bible and is ultimately Christ centered.

Not for ALL Girls :(,
This review is from: Every Young Woman's Battle Workbook: How to Pursue Purity in a Sex-Saturated World (The Every Man Series) (Paperback)
My husband and I have been teaching on marriage and family issues for years and have traveled and spoken as keynote speakers for marriage conferences. We have promoted Stephen Arterburn's books, "Every Man's Battle" and "Every Young Man's Battle" many times. My husband has read them and found them to be both relevant and realistic, however, "Every Young Woman's Battle" was shocking to us. Here's why. First of all, yes, teens are engaging in all kinds of promiscuous sexual activity and they need to be educated clearly on their choices and the consequences. And girls are sexually active at a very comparable rate to their male counterparts. And yes, someone needs to tell the truth about sex to teens if his or her parents are not going to do it. We completely believe that parents should educate themselves and have frank conversations about sex with their teens, and sometimes it is beneficial to use a book as a resource. But this book is not for everyone or every girl. If we're honest here, boys are typically very different than girls in their conversations about sex. They often use slang derogatory terms in "locker room" conversations. Girls tend to be a little more reserved with their blunt sexual talk and spend more time talking about sex from an emotional more romantic standpoint because no matter how you slice it, girls and boys are very different emotionally. I had purchased this book for my daughter to read, trusting that the differences in girls and how they discuss sex would be taken into account. My 13-year-old daughter opened the book to read the first few chapters, and in just a few pages she was introduced to sexual slang terms and graphic stories that she had never been exposed to before. Our children do not attend public school, and this may be the talk of the day today for girls in that arena, but the language in the book was over the top. Our daughter, at age 13, was given a purity ring, which she asked for as a birthday gift. Her purity and modesty are very important to her. She has pursued them, and she's worked hard, and so have we, to maintain her pure heart and mind. What was so disappointing was that in just a few short pages some of that purity was blemished by the stories and examples that were given and the language that was used, not to mention the graphic definitions of the words provided at the bottom of the page. This book might be beneficial to some groups of young women, but not to be trusted for every teenage girl. My recommendation would be that before exposing your daughter to any book, you read it in its entirety first and that you weigh where your daughter is in her own ideas regarding sex and exposure to the topic before letting her read any book. I believe this book should be for college age girls and single women and not for High School girls unless they are already extremely sexually active.

Exactly What I Needed,

At my age and with my experiences, I truly wondered if there was a christian book that I could empathize with, learn from, and grow from. This is exactly that book. I'm 21 years old, in college, and this book appealed to every aspect (in regards to sexuality) that I personally struggle with. The stories from the other girls made me realize that my situations were not an isolated event, but that many all over dealt with the same issues. My roommate and I began sharing this book, and its increased our faith and overall relationship with God. This book is simply amazing. Shannon let the spirit guide her on this one, and you'd be very unwise to pass it up!!

Unbelievable!,
This review is from: Every Young Woman's Battle Workbook: How to Pursue Purity in a Sex-Saturated World (The Every Man Series) (Paperback)
My daughter had been given this book in church and I promptly called to complain. This book basically uses scare tactics to keep young women from exploring their sexuality in a healthy way. The authors warn about the temptation of masturbation, homosexuality and boys who only want "one thing". In Part II, avoiding self-destruction, in reference to masturbation it states, "Simply praise God and be determined to resist this temptation if it ever sneaks up on you." It also cautions young women not to do anything they wouldn't do right in front of their parents. Unless your looking for something that fuels the extreme right-wing propaganda machine I would not advise you to purchase this book. I would have given it 0 stars, but I couldn't find that option.
