Many years ago, I came across "Every Night Josephine" by adult novelist Jacqueline Susann. While I considered myself a "cat person" I couldn't help but get caught up in the lives of this adorable French poodle and her author-owner. The way the author laid out the story and related the experiences of this pampered pet as she hobnobbed with showbiz celebrities was rich in detail and description. I could actually picture the little dog chowing down on Hershey Kisses in a New York City penthouse or upstaging her mistress during a television appearance. THE END.

I can't imagine any circumstance under which I could ever bring myself to read VALLEY OF THE DOLLS or any of the other novels Jacqueline Susann wrote, but this account of life with her beloved pet poodle is energetic and funny, and her account of her attempts to by a pedigree, registered dog is a minor comic masterpiece--if you doubt it, pick up any copy of the AKC monthly magazine; the process is not only just as baroque and ridiculous as Susann makes it sound, it's actually a bit more so . . .

It is the only book I read over and over again and I find more to enjoy each time I read it. I recently found a hard cover book after months of searching as my paperback was getting very tattered. I am not a dog lover per se, but I love the way she tells of the trials of having a pet and especially in New York City.

I always recommend this book to first time dog-owners. It is delightful as well as insightful and I am devasted that I lost my copy of the book. I have re-read it many many times. It is the story of the authors dog -- a poodle named Josephine. Susann's stories about their life centering around this small bundle of fur are very funny and poignant

what can you say about this book? jackie escaped from her novels of sex, seconals, and scandal twice, and the results were in my opinion, her best efforts: YARGO and EVERY NIGHT JOSEPHINE! this book was funny, easy to read, and reread, and just plain entertainment. ms susann never aspired to be a shakespeare or hemingway, and her delightful books should be appreciated for what they are. personally, i think its sad that her life was cut short, i would love to have seen my collection of her books growing every year as my stephen king collection currently does.

I LOVE this book! It is a hidden jem and it's too bad more people do not know about it because it is hilarious and soooo true-to-form of life with an eccentric dog. I love Jacqueline and I love Josephine. This book is one that I read over and over because I laugh and cry out loud each time. It is a terribly under-rated classic! 5 stars, thumbs, all of it! :) PLEASE GET IT ON KINDLE!!!!!!

Ive loved this book for years - Ms. Susann was very gifted and possessed - it was a shame her life was cut short.

Everyone who has ever had a pet.Especially a poodle should read this heart warming tale. It's really sweet story.. I have read and owned it twice.

What a book. What a dog. What a story. This is the "biography" of famed writer Jacqueline Susann's poodle, Josephine, first published in 1963. I never read it until the other day, 47 years later, but with the exception of some of the prices of things cited in the book, it is still quite timely. I simply could not put it down until I finished it over several hours one afternoon. Obviously, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was also FUNNY. Rarely do I laugh out loud so often while reading a book, but in this book, I laughed many times. The book has so much feeling, so much emotion. When I finished the book, I kept saying to myself, "what a book" over and over. It is THAT well written, that enjoyable, that true-to-life.
I have a dog and can relate, but it is absolutely not only for dog owners. It is a lovely, charming true story of how this very clever dog found Jacqueline, and all about their lives together in NYC. including a meeting with Greta Garbo! A great book selection for children as well as for adults. Very, very good. Read it.

It is a pleasure read a book like this! It is funny and tender. Specially recommended for pet's owners and people who love animals.
