I purchased these dryer balls because you can't use dryer sheets or fabric softeners on cloths diapers and I wanted to reduce the amount of chemicals in my house. They do just what they're supposed do-- cut drying time and eliminate the need for chemical softeners. However, you definitely need more than the three that come in the set. These ones are smallish, I suggest using at least six (two sets) to make the most out of them. They tend to hide in sleeves, pant legs, the folds in fitted sheets, etc., so you often have to do some searching. I plan on purchasing a kit to make more balls (since it is cheaper) so I can have a basket full on hand to save the search time in the laundry room.

LOVE these. They do shorten drying time, keep static down and soften clothes. Have used them for a month + now and no problems.

I bought these to 1. save money, and 2. stop using chemicals in my dryer. I think they are working well, they seem to do a bit more than no dryer sheets at all when it comes to reducing wrinkles & static cling. They definitely reduce drying time. But, you do have to search for them in the laundry as they tend to get stuck in the clothes--not a big deal to us, though.

I'll be honest with you. I'm a little bit in love with these wool dryer balls. They make my clothes SOOOOOO soft. My bedsheets are especially soft and perfect after a run through in the dryer with these things. I can't believe that something so simple is an alternative to fabric dryer sheets. These are simply put, amazing.

Also, I bought the NOW Foods Lavender Oil and put a little dab of this on the balls. It doesn't stain my clothes nor does it leave a weird greasy spot like most dryer sheets. But if you want a truly luxurious smell to your clothes, then I'd definitely go with Aveda Lavender Fleurs oil - heavenly.

I had read many good things about wool dryer balls, but I was still shocked by how quickly my dryer cycle was done. My HE dryer can do a whole load of towls in 45 minutes now (usually 1 1/2 hrs). I think I did 5 loads of laundry one night just because I was so amazed at how quickly the dryer cycle was completed - 3 hrs for 5 loads!! Impressive! I've started to reduce the drying temp too, still done lightning fast!

Perhaps the air is too dry these days in Northern California, but these wool dryer balls have not helped me get rid of the static of newly washed clothes. They did not cut the drying time and neither did I feel the fluffiness of my linens.

I bought a set and started using them in January. One ball unraveled after about 6 months of use. I hoped it was a fluke and was willing to give the manufacturer the benefit the doubt. The second one unraveled in August, leaving little wool fuzzies all over an entire load of clothes. I spent over an hour pulling them off of everything in that load of laundry. The third one is still hanging on, but I am sure it is only a matter of time before it bites the dust.

I had these on my wish list and got them for Christmas. First, the down side. There is still static, but I didn't really expect anything to totally get rid of static. Because of this, often when unloading the dryer one is stuck inside a sleeve and you have to root around to find it. No biggie if you fold right away but sometimes it gets on my nerves. Also, heaven forbid you put a Kleenex in a pocket through the wash - it gets stuck all over the balls and you have to pick it off. Of course, keeps it from sticking in the dryer screen.

The up side, they do a great job keeping my king size sheets from wadding up in a ball in the dryer. I still sometimes have to readjust, but nowhere near as much as I used to. And of course, they do a decent job of softening without chemicals, which is what really drew me to them. On the balance, I think they are a good alternative - not perfect but a good alternative choice.
