Everybody Can Help Somebody by Ron Hall and Denver Moore is a great resource for parents who want to teach their kids that they too can make a difference. The book relays the true story of Denver Moore's childhood and how he eventually became homeless as an adult. Denver was angry and grumpy because no one would help him or give him a job. Finally somebody DID help. Two somebodies, actually. Debbie and Ron Hall found Denver and told him that he did have Somebody who loved him very much--his very own Heavenly Father. Now Ron and Denver travel across the country, telling others about their story, reminding them that "Nobody can help everybody, but everybody can help somebody."

I truly enjoyed this children's book. It touched me and provided a visual example for my daughter about how we can make a difference for other people, even if they are different from us. The colorful pages and illustrations really made Denver's story come to life. I recommend this book for children school age and above. It makes a great homeschool resource and field trip companion. I plan to bring up the topic again closer to Thanksgiving, when we will hopefully have the chance to help out at a food drive or soup kitchen.

This is a really sweet story and knowing it is based on someone's actual life is even better. The original adult version of this book, Same Kind of Different As Me: A Modern-Day Slave, an International Art Dealer, and the Unlikely Woman Who Bound Them Together is how it all began, but Denver wanted to share his story in a kid-friendly version also.

When we feel different and alone, we can get mean. God sent a human angel into Denver's life that introduced him to God's love. She took the time to show Denver that his life mattered and that he could help others too. We are only one person each, but we can decide to make our lives count and encourage others too. If we influence thousands or only one, that one's life is impacted and who knows how many others will be impacted because of them?

The pictures are simple with an old-time charm to them. Denver has since died, but his story will go on and continue to affect many other lives, I'm sure.

Tommy Nelson/Booksneeze sent me the above book for review purposes. It will allow me to keep the book. I have no other connection to and have received no other compensation from Tommy Nelson/Booksneeze.

I bought this book for two families of grandchildren to encourage each person in the families to be aware of opportunities to help others. The parents of the first family (with three elementary aged children) read it to the children, and the entire family was affected to the point of making a positive plan make a difference. The second family (with one elementary daughter) took the book to school and read it to the whole class. Now the class wants to make a difference.

Excellent book to tell the story to children from the adult version, Same Kind of Different As me, which is one of my all time FAVORITE books. We need to teach our children & grandchildren how to have a servant's heart, us adults also. Both of these books will touch your heart and move you to think of others, no matter how they look or even act.
