4.0 out of 5 stars Fun sound, even better live
This album is more of a 3 1/2 stars than a four star, but they're definitely a four or five star live show. The songs aren't exactly deep, but music doesn't always have to be deep to be enjoyable.

Their debut is a twelve song infusion of rapid pop with a hint of blues that allows me to listen and enjoy with a little less guilt involved. Its fun to dance to,...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Just OK...
I bought this based on reviews I read here, and it is good, but not worthy of 5 stars. All the songs sound the same after awhile and I got bored with it quickly.

Maybe after time it will grow on me, but for now I give it 3 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun sound, even better live, March 31, 2007
This review is from: Everybody Else (Audio CD)
This album is more of a 3 1/2 stars than a four star, but they're definitely a four or five star live show. The songs aren't exactly deep, but music doesn't always have to be deep to be enjoyable.

Their debut is a twelve song infusion of rapid pop with a hint of blues that allows me to listen and enjoy with a little less guilt involved. Its fun to dance to, fun to sing a long with. I'm genuinely surprised these guys haven't gotten more play and publicity - they have all the makings for a mainstream hit; pop hooks and good looks.

Fun Fact: The lead singer was in The Push Kings (whose albums can be found on Amazon) with his older brother and two other guys. I personally liked them. Just drawing a comparison here: Everybody Else still keeps pop as their overriding influence. However, they utilize the blues-tuned voice the lead possesses, creating an album that stretches into a different area of sound. Basically, the voices of the two bands sound similar (the two being brothers), but are used differently to achieve (quite vastly, in my opinion) different sounds. And Everybody Else is leaps and bounds more produced than Push Kings albums.

Standout tracks include "In Memoriam", "Born to Do", "Rich Girls, Poor Girls", and "Button for Punishment" (a nice acoustic number). All in all I like and often listen to ten of the tracks and the other two ("longest hour" and "makeup") aren't terrible, I just don't care for them.

I own live tracks and have seen them live and greatly recommend their show and any live tracks you can get a hold of - you won't be dissapointed by their level of talent and energy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indie sunshine on a cloudy day, April 3, 2007
This review is from: Everybody Else (Audio CD)
"Everybody Else" proves that "indie/alternative" rock need not be brooding, naval gazing, overly earnest and pretentious. Their debut disc ROCKS and makes you feel good, too! Stand out songs include: "Meat Market,' "Born to Do," "Rich Girls, Poor Girls" and, well, how can I choose? They're all good and will remind you why you love rock and roll.

4.0 out of 5 stars Young People CAN write great songs!, May 18, 2009
This review is from: Everybody Else (Audio CD)
Just when I thought there was no hope for the younger generation writing any pop tunes that are musicially worthwhile, here comes EVERYBODY ELSE.
Thank GOD. These guys are great. There's hope!

First up, let me say that I'm an older music dude. I've been around through enough decades of music to see the good and the bad. I do remember a time, where listening to the radio made you feel GOOD. Not depressed.

This is music that makes you feel good! I think that's important. Is it deep, life-changing music, filled with helpful hints of how we can all have peace? No.

Is it heavy, brooding, angry music, pissed-off at the MAN? No.

Do we really need another cookie-cutter Alt-Rock band that write songs that pretty much all sound the same? No.

Are Everybody Else the PERFECT music group, who are brilliant and musical geniuses? No. BUT, at least they are writing catchy, classic music that you can REMEMBER, when you're walking around, or in the shower. That's something. (Tried to sing a 50-Cent ditty in the shower, lately?)

I'd say that EE has done their music history homework, and have actually heard of The Raspberries, The Beatles, and a myriad of great pop bands that most 23-year olds have never heard of.

Are EE retro? Definitely.
Is their music enjoyable? Definitely.

You can use all the put-downs you want: "Teddy Bear-music", "Teeny-Bopper Music", "Lightweight", etc. Truth is, that I'd rather play this than a million Eminem, Nickelback, or Black Eyed Peas' CDs.

Music is subjective. What one person loves, another is bound to hate.

BUT, if you enjoy classic, well-written pop tunes - the kind you heard so long ago, and loved --- you will really enjoy "Everybody Else".

Trust me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great pop album!, September 28, 2010
This review is from: Everybody Else (Audio CD)
This album was introduced to me through a few friends on a tour bus and since then I've probably listened to this album over 100 times. I'm looking forward to 100 more! It's a great album from start to finish. It's fun. It's pop. What more could you ask for? Notable tracks to check out would be "Born to Do","Rich Girls, Poor Girls","Makeup" and "Meat Market". If you're having a party throw this on the stereo and people are sure to have a great time!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Music, Amazon Mistakes, September 13, 2010
This review is from: Everybody Else (MP3 Download)
I bought a couple of songs from this album individually through Amazon's Mp3 service, which is fantastic, but in this case the names of songs are all mixed up with the sample and actual purchased song as of 9/13/2010 . For instance the song listed as In Memoriam is given the sample for Alone in The World, which is another track on this album. The sample at least matches with the actual song you get when you download but it makes everything very confusing. This isn't a problem if you buy the whole album, except for the confused song names, that is. Otherwise the music is fantastic, happy, sutuff

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Music, November 11, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Everybody Else (Audio CD)
This band makes some awesome music. I loved finally listening to the entire cd. I also like the case the cd came in. It was all hand drawn by a member of the band. The one thing that I didn't like was was sleeve and the cd cover. It has naked girls on it. I don't want to see that... I'm a girl. I think the boys could have picked a better picture to draw on that too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Push King Fans Take Note, August 27, 2008
This review is from: Everybody Else (Audio CD)
If you dug The Push Kings, this picks up where they left off. Of course, it doesn't hurt that one-half of that brother duo, Carrick Moore Gerety is the chief songwriter here. Great fun. And you can download for free a bunch of additional demos from Everybody Else's website (some rough, some just as good as what made it to the final 2007 retail release). If you're wondering where Finn Moore Gerety disappeared to, check out his 2007 solo CD, which does not sound like The Push Kings, but does sound like something psychedelically pop captured on tape evidently in a shack in the woods (seriously, that's what I've been told); he goes by Finian McKean and his CD is entitled "Shades Are Drawn." Finian's CD doesn't provide the power pop thrills Everybody Else's debut does, but it has its charms. I'm sorry to see that the Moore Gerety brothers have split, but now we get two-X's the fun with these two very different CD's.

4.0 out of 5 stars A deceptively good listen, August 2, 2007
By
Dusty Punch (McKinley, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Everybody Else (Audio CD)
In a musical landscape that has been flooded with recycled hip hop, cookie-cutter American Idol pop, and wanna-be pop-punk, it is refreshing to hear a band that seems to model themselves to some degree after bands like The Kinks and Enuff Z'Nuff. This debut album is hardly the most aggressive collection of songs put forth for public consumption, but their modest sound leads to extremely catchy selections such as "Meat Market" and "Makeup," with even the sappy "Longest Hour of My Life" having some appeal. A very unexpected surprise.

5.0 out of 5 stars the ever best album/ CD of the last 30 years, July 16, 2007
This review is from: Everybody Else (Audio CD)
If you haven't lissened to this superb CD - do it immediately! Full of catchy melodies, the best voice in the music business, nice lyrics and most of all - outstanding rythm and melodic instruments. I can't stop lissening to this wondefull sound of harmony and powerfull pop. Like the Beatles in former times, here is the absolute follow-up band of the new century.
All songs are more than great. They are hits and will keep in your ears
for a long time. This group will become Americas finest powerpop sensation
with a little bit of the young Paul McCartney meeting Beach Boys, Badfinger and sometimes the Eagels.
Six stars would be the best rating!!!
