Biography

It's a shame we'll never know how good Jeff Buckley could have been, but the indications are that, up to his death in 1997, he was set to shine.

His credentials were promising, he was the son of Tim Buckley, though he had barely met him, and his mother and stepfather were musical, encouraging his interests to the point that, at 12, he had decided to become a musician. After attending a one year… Read more in Amazon's Jeff Buckley Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, an Angel has left our presence., November 10, 1998
This review is from: Everybody Here Wants You (Audio CD)
Can any doubt it? Upon hearing his voice, can you not believe some sort of heaven, religious or secular, exists and manifests itself in mysterious ways now and again in the world of music? This song, the best on the My Sweetheart The Drunk Sketch sessions, exemplifies how one voice can instill in us emotions too strong for words. Filled with a sad longing and pulsing to a Marvin Gaye-like beat, Everybody Here Wants You hammers home an undeniable truth: Jeff Buckley was a once in a lifetime talent. Thank god his mother saw fit to release the Sweetheart+ songs, if only for this one cut...you'll want to play it again and again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Achingly beautiful, August 3, 1998
This review is from: Everybody Here Wants You (Audio CD)
Finding this single in a bargain bin was such a piece of divine enhancement for my life. Of course, I heard the critical acclaim, but it doesn't seem possible that one person could be that good. Until you hear him. His voice can soar to the heights and swoon to the depths, touching everything he sings with magic that strikes a chord in all of us. He will be sorely missed, but his legend will keep on growing.
