Double Album Impact,
By Gregory Swiderski (ROLLING MEADOWS, ILLINOIS United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Everybody Loves a Clown/She's Just My Style (Audio CD)
By 1966 Gary Lewis and the Playboys were rolling along. Everybody Loves A Clown and She's Just My Style were top ten hits. While Everybody Loves A Clown was a very good album most of the selections on She's Just My Style were just ok. Gary likes to do covers and for the most part did them well. Had Gary made more of the songs such as We'll Work It Out, I Won't Make That Mistake Again and a few others, Gary's works might be more respected. Both albums kept Gary's voice range well in hand and the selections and arrangements are good. For the most part these are feel good albums on CD. The extra songs at the end are just a nice bonus. While this and the This Diamond Ring/A Session With... albums are the only releases like this I would like to see as I think others would other two album sets. IE Hits Again with the Paint Me A Picture LPs, New Directions with Listen (excellent), Close Cover Before Playing with I'm on the Right Road Now. I'll take a pass at NOW and Rhythm of the Rain/Hayride LP's.

Someone help me?,

Does this version of the two albums sound better than the previously released EMI version? That's the one I have currently. For example, my version has quite a bit of hiss on "She's Just My Style". Anyway, could someone please let me know?By the way, about these albums. These aren't the best "albums" by Gary Lewis. Then again, all of their albums were hits and fillers. The best one on here, in my opinion, is the "She's just My Style" album. Personally, I think the best "album" by them is "Hits Again", which hasn't made it to cd yet. Somebody at the record company take a hint! Release the rest of the catalogue! I e-mailed Gary at his website. He says he has no control over it, and it's all the company's decision to release them. Perhaps if enough people e-mail them? I know I would. Until then, I'll have to settle for my cd-r's that I remastered from vinyls.

Great, and a wish for more 2 in 1,

The cuts are great, and it's a great idea to combine two albums in one CD. I wish they could also issue, as i agree with Mr. Swiderski, a CD incorporating the New Directions (remember "Let's be more than friends tonight"?) and Listen ("She'd rather be with me", a cover of the Turtles original).
