"Love Everybody" starts off with one of PUSA's best songs ever in the title track, but there's a serious valley in the middle of this record. Beginning with "Surf's Down" the album goes through a slump that continues on through "Munky River" (sorry folks, I don't think "Poke And Destroy" is a particularly good tune). Much like coming out of the Seattle grunge scene in the early nineties, laughing in the face of all that was over the top gloom, dread, and misery in music; The Presidents of The United States of America (or POTUSA) have once again arrived at just the right time. While most bands are getting their kicks on emo, POTUSA is back with hooks so catchy, and lyrics so hilariously clever, it'll send any self-righteous scenester running for the hills.

Highlight songs include the perverse "Drool At You" Which hilariously walks the line between creepy obsession and pure cuteness, and one hell of a catchy synth line to boot. "Some Postman", another song about sick obsession packaged with sweet pop goodness. Honestly there is not one song on this album to scoff at, unless you are some uptight music snob afraid to have fun.

This is the most impulsive and fast POTUSA album yet. Anyone turned off by songs about little bugs or the country twang in the debut should be very pleased to hear that "Love Everybody" delivers a brand new sound right off the bat. Songs like "Shreds of Boa" and "5,500 Miles" spare the silliness and bring the rock and roll. Those who loved the sound of self titled, well at least you'll love the old school themed track, "Munky River"

The fun and tongue-in-cheek humor never lets up on this album, making it hands-down the best pop-punk album since Mr. T Experience's "Revenge Is Sweet, And So Are You". It's a great album to get if you want to get under the skin of that emo kid who lives down the hall. Blast those geeky tunes with pride, brave music fan; and to the Presidents, I salute you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Refreshing.... and Fun, March 17, 2005
By
everclearfan (Portland, OR USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love Everybody (Audio CD)
The Presidents of the United States of America (PUSA) were one of my favorite bands of the large litter of off-kilter 90's bands when I was younger, and it's very refreshing to see a great 90's band such as these guys make a great album these days in an industry composed of bland, talentless rock, especially when most of their peers from the 90's have been rather disappointing as of recent.
The album is stacked full of hit songs ('Love Everybody', 'Zero Friction', 'Highway Forever', 'Surf's Down', 'Munky River', and of course 'Some Postman'). It's amazing that after nearly a decade and a few albums along the way, PUSA have managed to maintain their style and finesse and make an album that as always, is FUN to listen to. Their songs's quirkiness and funny/catchy lyrics are what has always embodied their music, and made PUSA who they are.
The album is not as good as their debut, but is a close second in my opinion, and a must-have album for not only a PUSA fan, but for anyone who's into good music that rocks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Serving more than your recommended daily dosage of ROK..., October 13, 2004
By
The Stef (Bellingham, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love Everybody (Audio CD)
The Presidents of the United States of America... they're back with a bang, and twice the ROK.

Love Everybody most certainly ranks among other PUSA releases... it's not the best, but it's a definite contender. This album is a fusion of their self-titled debut and their last release, Freaked Out and Small. Love Everybody takes you up and down the ROK roller coaster without the overproduced feel of FOAS and still brings it down and smooths it out PUSA style.

1. Love Everybody: It's nothing short of adrenaline-pumping, feel-good rock-n-roll that contrasts the plethora of depressing teen anthems running rampant in today's MTV-driven rock scene. This track alone will leave you full and content--it's undoubtedly "single" material.

2. Some Postman: While this may be the current "hit" single, it's far from ground-breaking by PUSA standards. This song does, however, employ the classic release-of-emotion ending, which works in its favor.

3. Clean Machine: Another one of those catchy, radio-friendly tunes. A clever blend of light, poppy verses and a crispy, harmonized chorus.

4. Highway Forever: A bowl of chunky country rok best served on the road... the harmonica solo is a definitive highlight of the album. Very bassy and classically PUSA.

5. Zero Friction: Feel-good fun for the whole family... a little rok, a little roll, and a whole lot of silly. It's got the same story-esque feel of "Body," but it's wrapped in a cream-puff package.

6. Surf's Down: A cleverly centered instrumental track. While good in it's own right, one can't help but think it'd be more at home on a Giraffes album.

7. Shortwave: A fast little punk influenced ditty that's sure to get you pumped and grooving in the morning.

8. Poke and Destroy: Oh, the memories... this track is just plain FUN. C'mon, who hasn't tried to fry ants with a magnifying glass?

9. Munky River: Totally skippable. This track is the only real disappointment... not that the song itself is bad, it's just that the b-side version (featuring a cello and xylophone) is sooo much better, you can't even compare the two. That, and the LE version drags. So if you'd love to float on Monkey River, I'd suggest picking up the Peaches live CD. You just can't top perfection...

10. Drool at You: A fun and upbeat rendition of the former Chris and Tad song. Personally, I liked the Chris and Tad version better, but this one's good too.

11. Vestina: Obviously one of the most debated tracks on the record, and for that reason it's the secretly genius song of the album. It's one of those songs that turns heads and cocks eyebrows. You really have to listen to it more than once to catch the vibe... and then it hits you... "Vestina, I love youuu... Vestina I dooo..." The build begins, slowly pulling you into a beautiful rock-n-roll explosion of cadential emotion.

12. 5,500 Miles: Here's a brilliant demonstration of PUSA's ability to start off loud, dark, and energetic, and then bring it down with a classic PUSA melodic line without losing interest or energy.

13. Shreds of Boa: Melodic rock, PUSA style. Another one of those great slow-to-fast songs with a great hook and that little hint of funky country influence in the chorus.

14. Jennifer's Jacket: This acoustic number feels more like a hidden track than anything else, but is nonetheless another great example of PUSA's clever lyricism and bluegrass influences.

Now some critics are complaining that Love Everybody is too simple... but you've obviously missed the boat. It's not what chords or how many of them you use, it's how you use them in your music. PUSA has always been able to bring the ROK in a way that is both unique and universal. Every song is written with a stand-alone quality that doesn't leave you feeling empty or incomplete at the end of the day. This album is definitely worth picking up if you have the means... and i highly suggest you do so right now.

5.0 out of 5 stars PUSA's Back, August 27, 2004
This review is from: Love Everybody (Audio CD)
I thought that I would never hear anything new from these boys. Thank goodness they came to their senses and realized that they ROK! This album is quickly becoming my favorite. I love it lots. Sit back, relax.

Track #1 Love Everybody
I heard this live in Minneapolis and I liked it right then. It has that Kick out the Jams feel. A great way to kick off this great comeback album. Nice catchy lyrics with the classic PUSA diction, "You gotta make them feel good about themselves."

Track #2 Some Postman
I would love to shoot this video (PUSA call me). Something that I have always loved about PUSA is the stories that are in their songs. An interesting notion that there is a Postman out there obsessed with other people's love letters. A great poppy tune that will surely have plenty of radio play.

Track #3 Clean Machine
Classic lyrics in true form. "Showing me a cloud free galaxy". Nothing like a space reference from PUSA. Fun tune. That's all.

Track #4 Highway Forever
I also heard this one live. Great upbeat tune. WEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! there's asphault in between us! Good work boys!

Track #5 Zero Friction
It's a killer song. One of my favorites. Another one I would love to shoot the video for. This is the kind of song that can turn a bad day into a kick butt day.

Track #6 Surf's Down
An instrumental. It's a much needed breather from all the rocking you've been doing.

Track #7 Shortwave
Rock song. Nuff said. Nice keyboards a real Doors feel (just the keyboards that is).

Track #8 Poke and Destroy
Yup. Good. "Big glass spider webs hanging from the ceiling." How can you not love this stuff?

Track #9 Munky River
Heard this one live. Once again loved it. Fun slower song. Another video I'd like to shoot. Surely will be heard on the radio if the DJ's get smart that is.

Track #10 Drool at You
Maybe I love this CD too much to be objective. Even with Freaked Out and Small I had criticisms. Are you bored yet! This song rocks like all the rest! Great guitar riff at the beginning. DROOLING! DROOLING!

Track #11 Vestina
It turned me off in the beginning. I promised myself I wouldn't skip past this song. Now I love it. Vestina! Vestina! your advertising agency folded today. By the way PUSA, you can sell anything you make directly to me.

Track #12 5,500 Miles
Mean rock. yes! Are we allowed to mosh again? Is that lame? Are we all getting too old for that? NAAAAAHH!!! At least bob your head to this one. Has some real nice "Stranger-esk" breaks.

Track #13 Shreds of Boa
Heard it live. It rocks. Drive to this song. Roll down the windows and bother your neighbors as you cruise in your mini-van to this song. Party favor pearls!

Track #14 Jennifer's Jacket
This one will throw you off. A cute song. Play it for that Jennifer in your life. The end will bring you in and will make you want to hear this song over and over and over. FALLING APART AT THE SEEMS! Hold someone's hand. Sit out on the grass. Have picnic. Watch the sunset. I love PUSA. I'm so glad they are back together.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

End transmission

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy monkey-butt magnificent, September 21, 2004
This review is from: Love Everybody (Audio CD)
I haven't even gotten through the dang thing yet. I've been listening to "Some Postman" for months in various forms (I have a live recording of it Chris did with the Giraffes) but when I heard the Presidents' rendition I knew it was the definitive version, and I knew I couldn't wait a minute longer to pick up this great friggin' album. So a month later I finally managed to find it at a not-so-local Sam Goody after a four hour bus ride I took to pick up a DVD which they didn't have (I didn't have enough for both, anyway). That was last night, I got up today and after going over a tape I'd made yesterday of my insaneo guitar stylings, I popped the mofo into my CD thingy and cranked it into my ear-huggers. Halfway through the first track (Love Everybody, the title track) I found myself wanting to throw the headphones down, run outside and shout the praises of this album to anyone who was willing to listen, but I resisted that urge so I could continue to listen. I'm only to Track 5. "Zero Friction" and I already think this might replace II (the second PUSA album) as my favorite PUSA album and if it continues this way I may have to dethrone Pinkerton (Weezer's terrific second album) and crown Love Everybody the lord and master of my CD collection (or maybe they could rule alongside each other as a triumvirate with the White Stripes' "De Stijl" or the Vines' "Winning Days" or Blur's "Blur" or Beck's "Odelay"). I'm to lucky #7. "Shortwave" now and I feel as though I my die of rocking bliss, and it would be worth it.

Then, with "Drool At You", the CD picks up where it left off at "Zero Friction" until the not-so-impressive closing song, "Jennifer's Jacket". There's definitely some must-have tracks on this record, but it was a bit of a letdown, coming quickly on the heels of the superb "Freaked Out And Small".

4.0 out of 5 stars On a 'Highway forever' ...it's the mid-90's all over again, June 30, 2008
This review is from: Love Everybody (Audio CD)
First off, I am a PUSA fan since '95. I've got all their albums.

I'm not going to rehash everything that's already been written in other reviews. I will say that tracks 1-4, 7, 8, 12 & 13 are their best songs since the good old days.

#1: this album is vintage PUSA...it is the sound they made popular in '95 on their debut album, and tried to parlay on their second album in '96 (with mixed reviews).

#2, this album dwarfs "Freaked Out & Small" (2000), which, IMO is a forgettable, uninspired album.

If you are a big fan of the over-distorted fuzz bass, up-tempo vibe and power rock riffs that became PUSA's calling card back in the 90's, buy this disc. This is the last recording they did with co-founder Dave Dedrerer who left the group recently, and isn't on their new 2008 release "These Are Good Times People."

POINT BLANK: if you liked their debut album, get "Love Everybody." the band has come full circle in a terrific way.

5.0 out of 5 stars PUSA achieves Presidential Perfection!, April 9, 2008
This review is from: Love Everybody (Audio CD)
With "Love Everybody" PUSA has created a solid rock and roll album, with all of their trademark wackiness.

What makes this album and classic PUSA songs great are the stories within them and this album has a lot of stories to tell, while keeping a cohesive tone and production throughout.

Every song is great, with the exception of the last track, "Jennifer's Jacket" which would have been better as a hidden track since it doesn't quite fit with the rest of the album.

The standout tracks are:

-"Highway Forever": A fast paced blues-rocker that sounds like it's on the verge of falling apart at any second and has a wicked harmonica solo.
-"5,500 Miles": A great atmospeheric road trip song, with many levels.
-"Love Everybody": An action packed anthem with great lyrics.
-"Drool At You": A lively love song that goes to extremes.
-"Shreds of Boa": Catchy riff with fantastic non-sensical lyrics.
-"Some Postman": Fantastic story and poppy melody.

Really every song is great, but these are the one's you tap your feet to.

This is a must for any Presidents fan, this is the ultimate PUSA experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Songs you won't forget are here, March 28, 2008
This review is from: Love Everybody (MP3 Download)
i bought this album the first day it was released after seeing PUSA performed in the Carson Daly show. I still remember how exciting it was when I first heard the songs in 'Love Everybody'. Even though It was the first time hearing the songs. I could easily sing along in the chorus. That's just one example of how catchy their songs could be.

Their powerful opening song 'Love Everybody' if of course one of their greatest songs PUSA have ever written. It featured some full throttle guitar riffs and heavy rock drumming. I like how the outro ends in this song. Other memorable songs are 'Some Postman' and 'Zero Friction' and much more!! It's kind of pointless to describe how awesome the songs in words here. I will leave it to you be to be the judge. For those who don't know, THIS IS the album that brings them back together in great shapes after all those years in 90s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Album Yet, August 20, 2004
By
This review is from: Love Everybody (Audio CD)
A lot of the songs on this album have been floating around on the Internet for a while, but the recordings are this album are much cleaner and polished. All and all this album probably represents some of the best work of the Presidents yet. All the songs are high to ultra-high energy.

Apart from the few tracks that are here on Amazon you can sample the entire album on the iTunes store. Of course if you buy it from there you won't get yourself a real CD or the album art.
