Sander reaches new heights.,

I've never been compelled to write a review before but I feel that in a world of subpar music, people should know of gems such as this CD. This Cd is truly a fun ride through funky progressive all the way into the more dark stuff. Sander came out with a bang his first time around on Nubreed and he continues to expand his talents. Sander keeps you on your toes with this mixx and you'll love it. Not for the mainstream, this mix appealls to those of us with a ear for great electronic music. I clearly belive this is one of the years best progressive house compilations along with Deep Dish Toronto. It'll be in your CD player for a while.

Anyone with less than 5 stars stuns me!!,

AAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!! How amazing Sander is. My favorite album of his. FUN, funky, breaky, dirty, delightful, WICKED electro!!! Cannot say enough good things about the palpitation and tastiness of this album. Completely fun-loving and dancefloor inspiring without any hint of the dreaded cheeseball.

One of those "heavy rotation" mixes for your stereo,

Attempt one (cd one) is so smooth. The first disc contains flawless mixing with tasteful prog house cuts such as the first track "midnight" by Solaris. With a great opener like that you just know the cd is going to be good. The mix moves into tracks like "nativa" by Coruja & Sandoval which contains a naughty bass line that just makes you move and puts a grin on your face. The cd ends off with some soothing sounds and there is a little prog. trance touch here as well provided by Chable & Bonicci's "ride". This mix is absolutely sublime. All bass fiends will love the first disc. The sound is underground and has attitude even though the tracks aren't hard. The tracks all compliment each other. Great prelude to night of clubbing/raving.Attempt two sounds very different from attempt one. There is alot of electro present in this mix. The first two tracks "come into my kitchen" and "manilla" by Joakim and Seelenluft compliment each other very well and makes for a great opener. The clap effect in both the tracks is bad ass and funky. The mix moves through the funkier side of progressive house with tracks like "new new york" by Nicholas Vellee and "funk-the key word" by Roland Klinkenberg. Tracks like D2's "therapy" really make you feel proud to be a part of this global dance culture. The track features Dan Diamond who pretty much breaks down what true clubbing is all about...whew that track is hot! Attempt two ends off with some great progressive tracks that are layerd with dark and moving sounds especially with Kleinenberg's track "repeat to specify" as the closer. This complilation is worth every penny you spend on it. I promise that you will not be dissapointed. Go out and get it RIGHT NOW!

I vote for it. So good. Fun, funky, then dark & banging. I've come to expect a lot from Sander, and this mix delivers. Just get it, you won't be disappointed.

I'd list my favorite tracks, but they already have the tracklist posted. This mix is THE best mix I've heard in almost 2 years. Beats Nick Warren's Reykjavik by a mile, it leaves Eargasm in the dust, makes Deep Dish's Toronto pale in comparison, puts Addictive Beats to shame, and blows Great Wall out of the water. The mixing in unreproachable, leaving nothing to be desired. All the tracks fit together perfectly, creating one of the best moods I have heard on any CD, including Sander's earlier mixes. I just started listening it to the second time as I write this, so it's all fresh in my head, and I think I'll listen to it a third time if my CD player batteries don't die on me. Bottom line, if this CD was any better, they couldn't sell it on earth, they'd just have to give you your copy at the pearly gates...and that's the only CD you'd need for the rest of eternity up there.

Big Sander fan..this compilation might be the greatest mix ever released. Disc 2 is UNREAL. Check out sander's website (gallery section) to stream one of his live sets featuring the D2 dan diamond therapy track...if you're a real fan, not just some cheesy trance clubber, that track is what it's all about. The previous poster said it best- WHEW!!!

Excellent CD - Not Disappointed,

I cannot say that I can describe the various styles of 'house' music that exists today. I do know what I enjoyed when I explored the music filled 'Garage' in NYC. Of course 'house' music has progressed and it has many styles - one which I will not attempt to describe. As for this CD, I must say I was not disappointed. Most of the 'house' CD's I've purchased recently gave you a taste or two of house, but didn't have a real flow in the tracks. It's as if you got two good tracks followed by 3 which didn't really sound like house music. What was done nicely in these two cd's is the way each track flows into the next. You feel like you're in a club, and every track transitions smootly into the next. For those of you who came to enjoy the house music of the late 80's, you will not be disappointed. Overall I give this cd a 5. Enjoy it and make sure you dance to it!!

Reminds me of GU013: Ibiza, but not in the same class,
By Anand Subramaniam (Chennai, INDIA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Everybody (Audio CD)
Given the fact that most people know that Sander Kleinenberg bears a large Sasha influence on his work, it would seem pointless to compare a mix CD by him with something by Sasha. So what if it sounds a little bit like Sasha, you might say. It's bound to. The thing is, there aren't too many DJs today who recreate the kind of spacey, full bodied, melodic house-trance vibe that characterized GU 013. In this album, Sander does, giving us deja vu moments towards the end of CD 1 and all through CD 2. Disc 1 moves through some fairly straightforward vocal house territory - the sound of what's happening today, I guess, but nothing that really challenges established boundaries or pushes the envelope. Exception - Track 5, with a hypnotic bassline that's cut and kicked back up always one beat later than you expect - brilliant. The ambient synth arrays that marked Sasha's sets at the height of his popularity start making a statement as this disc draws to a close, leaving you with a faintly bitter-sweet feeling of melancholy satisfaction. Like I said, familiar. Disc 2, happily, picks the thread up and keeps giving you visions of the same beauty. Standout track - Steve Porter transports you to hissing, simmering synth heaven, looping the signature sound over a deep bass foundation. All through this CD, you get the feeling that you are hearing echoes of what Sasha did in the first disc of GU013, with substantial, wobbling synths and ambient, ethereal melodies. So what's the downside? This mix only reminds you of GU013 - it isn't GU013, and the similarity makes it suffer in comparison. Heck, "The Italian Job" starring Mark Wahlberg was a decent movie, but it isn't a patch on the original starring Michael Caine if you start comparing them. And the comparison is inevitable in this case too. It makes you feel like the sound Sander was exploring had a lot more potential than what came to the fore in the final cut of the mix. Disc 01 - 3.5 stars |
