A business book that has main characters, a story flow, and lots of lessons to be learned! Wow! The story of Dave and Gail Liniger and their vision for RE/MAX is just unmatched anywhere else in the world. Hands down, you've gotta read this one!

A great book with valuable insights for business success,
This review is from: Everybody Wins: The Story and Lessons Behind RE/MAX (Hardcover)
This is one of the most outstanding books I have read . It tells a story and gives an in depth explanation of the reasons for the successes. The ability and single-mindedness of the leaders of the founders, Gail and Dave Liniger have provided cohesion and impetus to RE/MAX growth and efforts. The book is an outstanding case study which I am sure will become a standard text in colleges and universities.
I was also impressed with the care taken to recruit leaders and other employees into RE/MAX. As stated, "Recruit dream sharers for skills and knowledge but select finalists for values and attitudes." It seems to me that this credo has helped to assure RE/MAX's outstanding, continued success. Also, the unceasing emphasis on "stay focused," " brand dominance" and "pace line leadership" to assure growth helps to explain why RE/MAX is the world leader. EVERYBODY WINS masterfully explains the RE/MAX concept and operation in my view. Harkins and Hollihan's outstanding case study helps to assure that RE/MAX is a "beacon" for firms and persons seeking success. I have no doubt university business schools will seize it to make their studies current, meaningful and reflect what is possible in American business both nationally and internationally.

Up, Up, and Away!,
By Scuba Diver (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Everybody Wins: The Story and Lessons Behind RE/MAX (Hardcover)
Phenomenal book on the rise of the RE/MAX philosophy. It details the efforts needed to establish a new real estate business model that flew in the face of an immobile, bedrocked industry. I especially enjoyed the emphasis placed on the early years and what the founders went through to ultimately succeed--a struggle in which success, failure, and near death all played their hands. This is an emotional roller coaster for the tight-knit community of brokers who first embraced the RE/MAX brand and strove to build it into one of the largest and most recognizable real estate brokerages in the world. Great story about the determination to build a business. 4 Stars.

This review is from: Everybody Wins: The Story and Lessons Behind RE/MAX (Paperback)
As a RE/MAX agent, I found the history behind the company to be most interesting. From a real estate perspective, it offers great insight into how the industry has changed over the last 35 years. From a business perspective (and that's probably this book's most valuable beneficial view) it illustrates the importance of holding onto a dream until it becomes reality.
Entertaining, motivating and enjoyable - a great book all the way around!

Hot Air & Real Estate Go Together,

This review is from: Everybody Wins: The Story and Lessons Behind RE/MAX (Hardcover)
As a fellow hot air balloonist I can certainly relate to Dave Liniger, Chairman and Co-Founder of RE/MAX and his passion for flying. As a business person I can relate to his passion for perseverance, especially when the chips were down." Everybody Wins" should be required reading at business schools and every real estate agent should read it, whether they work for REMAX or a competitor. In these days of MBAs running the world, its refreshing to read about someone who succeeded in business the old fashioned way... by rolling up their sleeves and getting knee deep.

Well not quite everyone, all it takes is a plan, hard work, luck, serindipity and persistance. The idea behind it all does not even have to be your own.Remax owes it all to Realty Executives.

I read this book about two years ago. This book has an ample amount of ingredients for success. This is definitely one of those types of books you can read over and over again for insight and inspiration. This book is not just tailored to RE/MAX and its concept but also structured to give one an adequate start or ongoing reference for ideas. I will save the gutts of the company's ascent for your on curiosity and review. This book is full of lessons on perseverance. Especially when at the brink of ruination.
RE/MAX represents a model of bold innovation, constant change and improvement, high levels of persistence, energy and passion. At RE/MAX, everyone's truly in business for themselves and not for the company they work in. That's the difference!

Just Read It,

This review is from: Everybody Wins: The Story and Lessons Behind RE/MAX (Hardcover)
I can tell you after working within the organization in various capacities for many years, and after personally hearing the founder and chairman Dave Liniger talk about it a few days ago, that this is a great book--even before I read it (not available at the time of this writing). Why? Because RE/MAX is an organically grown company, a true example of the Victor Hugo quote: "Nothing is as powerful as an idea whose time has come." RE/MAX serves as an example to all great organizations wherein the people are the most valuable resource--and I mean the associates and owners within the RE/MAX network. Their belief and promotion of its business model is a lesson for all entrepreneurs. Behind the tireless leadership of Liniger, RE/MAX has set the standard for industry vision and how, in the face of corporate domination, one company can rise to excellence while never abandoning its humanity.

A Good Read!,
This review is from: Everybody Wins: The Story and Lessons Behind RE/MAX (Hardcover)
The title of this 30-year history of the RE/MAX real estate firm is founder Dave Liniger's corporate philosophy: "Everybody wins." Liniger is a maverick, so even this authorized history is exciting and instructive. Authors Phil Harkins and Keith Hollihan assert that RE/MAX, "never experienced a month of negative growth," although they include sagas of near bankruptcies and other crises. The book focuses on absorbing storytelling, not statistics or metrics. It is organized mostly by theme, which blurs the chronology. The authors spin or dismiss any Liniger missteps, such as his "naïve" failure to keep up with payroll taxes. They praise him as bold and risk-taking, including the quixotic year he devoted to trying to fly a hot air balloon - the RE/MAX symbol - into the stratosphere. The book is readable, although sometimes a bit sweet and simple. And, the authors love clichés ("He put his head down and threw himself into the job" - ouch). Nevertheless, we cheerfully recommend this peppy saga. Managers will find it refreshing and instructive to read about people who attribute their success to loyalty, collegiality, hands-on leadership, and the ability to work and play hard, from each agent's office to the golf course and the boardroom.
