This review is from: Everyday Acts and Small Subversions: Women Reinventing Family, Community and Home (Paperback)
This book is full of delightful tidbits about women who live their lives as they choose and find fulfillment in beautiful ways. I recommend it to anyone who seeks respite from the routines that and rituals that are accepted and never questioned in our society. If you are looking for new ideas about relationships and family this is the place to find them. There is something here for every woman(and even for men!), no matter your profession, lifestyle choice, or family structure. An absolutely fabulous book.

Valuing non-traditional relationships,

One evening, feeling drained after meeting with my bookgroup, all women, and hearing everyone speak of partners and children, I bought Andee Hochman's book. My life course seems set: enjoyable job, affectionate house cat, but marriage and kids will never be in the picture. I don't want tradition, just a family, of any kind. After reading Hochman's book, in which she describes myriad forms of families and partners, I felt much happier. I could once again value those close relationships I do have, traditional or not, and they're not, these valued friends form my family

Having somewhat grown up with Ms. Hochman, I definitely appreciated learning more about her, and others who live somewhat "unconventional" lives. The book answered a lot of questions for me; this had personal meaning for me. Anndee is brilliant, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity that I had to share, although briefly, a period in her life. While I may not always agree with all her viewpoints, I do respect her and her values. I think much can be learned by reading this book, and I would strongly suggest that most open minded adults do so. Bible thumpers would probably not understand it, but I think it is definitely worth reading.

Thought-provoking and wise,

I am living a conventional lifestyle with a traditional family, but that did not make me appreciate this book any less. Anndee Hochman has a thoughtful and generous voice which spotlights many different ways of appreciating untraditional choices.
