Good 2nd album,

Though not as warm and catchy as their first album ("Cove"), this more electric effort has grown on me with repeated listens. Good album. The best songs are "Newfallen, "No Big Hope," "Fond" and "Third of Life."

Speak up! I might like this soft indie CD from Maine if Aaron Gerber and Sarah Winchester would try to sing in something other than their understated, breathy style. It might be the fault of the production, but it seems to me they're deliberately acting like it's the most difficult thing in the world to get the next word out, and they're just too fagged out to handle it. The music can be like that too, like the opening of "Seven Blankets", it just doesn't want to get moving. It's possible to make hay with that style, Alpha made it work on a couple CD's, but there was musical brilliance there.
Maybe I'm being too critical, if you just want to lie on the couch and not be bothered with anything too deep, the music is very good, if you can put up with lyrics like "under the cedar, where it's still dry". Okay, we get it, it's quiet and peaceful in Maine. Too quiet.
