5.0 out of 5 stars Like an "owners manual" for the people in my life..., October 29, 2000
By
Maggie Bedrosian (Rockville, MD United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Everyday Enneagram (Hardcover)
This is a book of both scholarship and heart. The information lives and dances in reality as I see myself and family and friends on each page. What is so helpful is not just seeing us as we are, but how some of our confusions and conflicts are just our strengths bashing into each other. I started a list of all the people I'd like to give a copy to just so we can talk about our styles. I don't know where to stop!

5.0 out of 5 stars Making the Enneagram easy to understand and apply, December 20, 2000

This review is from: The Everyday Enneagram (Hardcover)
I have read several books on the Enneagram and found Lynette's book to be the cleares tand best organized one yet. It is very easy to use and apply to both work and personal relationships. The Enneagram is a moving and evolving study and Lynette seems to have taken it to a new level of accessability with this book. Her mapping of the book is user friendly and consistant. I highly recommend it to both students of the Enneagram and new comers alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars A map to understanding self, others, and relationships!, September 10, 2001
By
This review is from: The Everyday Enneagram (Hardcover)
Enneagram (pronounced any-uh-gram) is an ancient means to discover self as well as understand and relate to others. Lynette Sheppard's new book, The Everyday Enneagram, is a practical tool, manual and guide about using this compelling information to work, love and live better.

Lynette takes the reader to a full understanding, indeed a map describing the motivations and worldview underlying behavior and traits. You will learn the nine basic personality types---and how we sometimes let our personalities run us. The Everyday Enneagram
then enables us to choose how to perceive or respond to a situation---so putting the power back into us.

The Everyday Enneagram has focussed chapters about how to best use these dramatic and life-changing concepts for personal growth and self-mastery, relationships, family, workplace and, yes, establishing a higher consciousness. Now we can ask, "Who am I
beyond this personality? Who am I without this protective cover or these filters?" In other words, making sense of our existence and therefore our relationship not only with people, but also with the Divine. "Enneagram theory espouses that we all came from Essence. In the beginning, each of us contained the potential of all nine points equally within. We are all one."

In this reviewer's opinion, the overriding beauty and benefit of The Everyday Enneagram is its map back to the Essence---and remembering our infinite, unbounded self. Educator and author Lynette Sheppard is the cartographer who can put you on the
road to enlightenment!

5.0 out of 5 stars Self-Analysis Solution, July 20, 2007
This review is from: The Everyday Enneagram (Hardcover)
The Everyday Enneagram by Lynette Sheppard is a marvelous book for enhancing your work and relationships. As a therapist and Jungian psychoanalyst I admire her achievement in translating the ancient oral tradition to everyday jargon free language. Imagine you can create a world with a compass and a ruler. That was what the Greeks did. Enneagram consists of two Greek words meaning 9 points which is also Sheppard's e-mail address: [...] where she invites the reader to share his or her own story. I found her presentation particularly refreshing and humorous.
No book can substitute for one- on- one counseling, however, The Everyday Enneagram makes the process of self-observation a good first step. She gives sage advice about finding our own type and the limitations of all such self administered tests. "We are just too complicated to be reduced to paper and pencil...Yet it is important that we discover our `core' or true type in order to find out how to work effectively with it. Otherwise, we may find ourselves barking up the wrong banyan!"
The Enneagram describes nine dramatically different ways of perceiving reality and contrasting unique worldviews. "...All nine ways work ...; we realize that `objective reality' is the ultimate oxymoron...Our relationships improve by leaps and bounds when we begin to listen carefully for a tune other than our own."
The Everyday Enneagram is an investment that will save you thousands of hours of psychotherapy. Buy it!
