Editorial Reviews

Review

A collection of 22 projects--most very practical--are presented in this delightful book. There's an emphasis on bags of various sorts, from a cute ladybug coin purse, an iPad cover and an e-reader case to an over-the-shoulder messenger bag and the simple but stylish tote bag shown on the front cover. There are also instructions for several lap quilts and some useful sewing accessories. The "jackalope" shown on the cover is the only softie included. The instructions are clear, there are lots of diagrams and each project is shown in several photographs taken from different angles. This combination means you are much more likely to understand exactly what's required and enjoy success in crafting your own version of these projects. --Australian Homespun Magazine

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyday Handmade Every Way Great! January 16, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is a pleasing from the cover and on!
The projects are a variety of useful and desirable items.
the photographs are colorful, bright, and inspiring.

I would buy any book with Cassie Barden's name on it! Her other book, The New Handmade, remains one of my favorite books.

The projects in this book are in four sections; Bags and Totes, which has four projects. The bag projects are a tote bag, a wristlet, a shoulder bag, and a messenger bag. The In The Kitchen section has coasters, a tea service set, a very cute apron, and a pot holder. On The Go includes a mustachioed man iPad case, a cute little box bag, an e-reader cover, a ladybug coin purse, and a wallet designed for the traveller. Gift Worthy Goods has a great knitting needle case, a darling woodland sewing set, a beautiful baby quilt, a jackalope stuffed toy, and a science-y lap quilt.

Also important and included are good directions, patterns, and diagrams....yup, this book is a good buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book December 5, 2011
Format:Paperback
"Everyday Handmade" is such a fun book. There's something here for every sewist....nothing too hard or advanced. I've already made the tote on the cover and love it! It was nice to showcase some of my favorite fabrics in the buttons. there are 22 projects ranging from totes, an adorable little wristlet, coasters, an adorable tea time embroidery and so much more. All the patterns needed are full size, no enlarging needed and the instuctions are clearly written and easy to follow. I'll definitely be making more of the projects from this lovely book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical, simple, and hip! January 3, 2012
By kgingey
Format:Paperback
"Everyday Handmade" is perfect for rookie sewists like myself who still like to think big! The projects are accessible and appealing, especially for crossover readers who love the look of crafts but need a little help along the way. These projects combine the sweetness of the handmade tradition (Paris Afternoon tea service set, Secret Ingredient apron) with some really fresh ideas that fit life on the go (Wanderlust pocketbook, Literary Genius e-reader cover). More fanciful projects include Fenn the Jackalope, the Weird Science quilt, and the Mustachioed Man iPad cover! They're hip, cute, and chic, all with a Bohemian twist! The book also has a helpful Basics/General Instructions section to help a newbie like me get started. The diagrams and tips are practical and helpful. I love this book, and I can't wait to start sewing!
