I really, really love this book. The author healed herself using raw foods. She doesn't talk much about them. Her focus is on changing your mindset to help you stay motivated on the lifestyle changes that you want to achieve. It's motivating and thought provoking. Each day she gives you a thought provoking action to take. One day that caught my attention is on denial. She talks about how many of us with health issues are in denial. We realize we have a problem, yet when it comes to addressing it and focusing on taking the lifestyle changes we don't take the steps. Its because we are in denial that the health issue won't affect us like so many others. Her words are more eloquent than I am writing. It hit home big time. While I have had MS for 20+ years, I keep mentally thinking it won't hit me like others. But it has. It's just I don't want to believe. She helped me to realize that If I don't take charge of my problem NOW, it will get worse. You don't want to waste time messing around when you have a health issue, by not changing your diet. I have been trying to go raw, but not fully putting my heart into it. Eating the raw food diet 80%. Well going 100% has made a big difference in how I feel. The difference is amazing. The author helps you to focus, get on track and stay there. She even has a section on organizing. The author said she is going to set up an online group on Facebook soon for extra support.

As someone who has personally struggled with healing from a chronic illness, I highly suggest this book. I love Janette's compassionate voice throughout, as well as her easy-to-understand, straight forward sharing of key information. You can tell that this book comes from the heart of someone who has truly been there and walked in my shoes. I think the best and most unique part of this book is the well broken-down, bite-sized, doable steps you can take each day to get closer to your best health. When you are searching for a diagnosis (or have been handed one that is open-ended), or you plain just don't feel well (and know something's not right), this book is a great guide for making real progress on your own. It does all of this while keeping the overwhelm at bay...which is no small feat! I recommend this book for those who are ill, caregivers, or for anyone who just wants to be optimally healthy! Janette makes it clear that support is one of the most important aspects of healing, and this book acts as a personal, portable support group!

As an acupuncturist and herbalist, intimately involved in supporting people on their healing paths, I found this book incredibly helpful! It is a practical guide to healing filled with insights and wisdom--the kind you gain when you live courageously in the midst of intense challenges. This book is well organized and easy to read. Even if you only follow a handful of the many exercises Janette offers in this book you could radically improve the quality of your health and your life. I began to read the book with my clients in mind, but quickly noticed how this book encouraged me take an honest look at my own personal health goals, the ways in which I am blocked, and then offered gentle and loving strategies for me to achieve my goals. This book is a gem for all -- those in good health who want to make subtle improvements, those in the midst of a health crisis, and everyone in between.

If you are interested in making true changes to your health and lifestyle but need some inspiration and support, then I highly recommend this book. In a society where so many of us settle in to bad habits and resist change, I find it refreshing that this book is not a "do this and do that and everything will be fine" type of book, but rather a book that empowers you to figure out how to make enduring changes in your everyday actions.

I'm a psychotherapist with a deep belief and extensive experience - personal and professional - in the strong links between mind and body. Hillis-Jaffe's book speaks freshly to many aspects of how, through increasing awareness and changing patterns, we can become more effective agents of change in our lives and specifically, advocates for our health. The book is readable (intelligent and clear; divided into "bytes" so it is accessible even to those who like to begin in the middle), human (sharing from her own experience), humorous (e..g. the section on not/integrating advice... should I stop in my tracks at "Blue-green algae saved my husband's cousin"? ha!)... I have already used some of the paradigms and quotes with my clients struggling with health issues. I recommend this book to anyone interested in upgrading and expanding their perspectives on "everyday healing." If there were seven stars, I'd give this author one for every day!

This is an incredibly inspirational and tactical book for anyone who has a goal of taking better care of him/herself and establishing a path to real healing. What I loved about this book is that it focuses less on a one-size-fits-all prescriptive method. Instead, it focuses on helping you to identify and remove roadblocks that are in your way of optimum health. Although I have been incredibly fortunate and have not struggled from any major health concerns to date, this book reminded me not to take my health for granted. It encourages progress through small changes that can assist us in becoming our "best selves". I also really enjoyed the way this book was written with digestible bites. Each day, the author gives you one action to take. Anyone can make one small change per day. As any true change can feel overwhelming, this book breaks down the foundational steps to provide us with powerful tools towards better living.
