5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!!!!, September 17, 2010
This review is from: Everyday Mathematics: Student Math Journal 1 (Paperback)
As a first grade teacher who has now been using Everyday Mathematics for four weeks, this program rocks!
The curriculum provides you a lesson and a number of different activities for every day of the school year, presented in a logical and accumulative order, in a way that is easy to comprehend and in a manner that shows results. Throughout the course of the year, the variety of activities in the book cover time, money, addition, subtraction, measurement, counting by different amounts, geometry, estimating, and more, all in engagging and diverse ways.
For example, on one day there is a lesson on telling time. The lesson, about 15 minutes long, at the most, involves the use of a paper clock, sample questions detailed in the lessons, and active participation by the students. The main activity that supports this lesson allows the children to indicate time on their own clocks (testing whether or not they understood the lesson) AND a creative aspect in which the children illustrate what they are doing at specific times. Then, included for this day, there are three more activities that reinforce the concept of time, a take home lesson that is simple and fully explained, and several more activity suggestions which reinforce previously introduced concepts. Then, over the next two days, and occasionally for the rest of the year, time concepts are introduced and reinforced.
The lessons are thorough, fun, interactive, easy to execute, and 23 lessons into the year, a huge success with the kids. There is a cost that exceeds just the curriculum- materials, copies, a supplemental Math Masters book- but it is well worth it. It is literally an Everyday program, but if you stick with the program and follow the rubric that is providd, results will show almost immediately. I am teaching first grade math for the first time after years of teaching kindergarten math, and this program has made it easy. Everyday Mathematics is a fantastic program!

This is the prescribed book in the school for my daughter.
The book is very useful and touches different parts for that level.
In few cases, some examples would have helped my daughter to follow it easily.
