Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Essed (Center for Race and Ethnic Studies, Amsterdam) wishes to create an awareness of racism in the Netherlands by contrasting the "experienced reality" of the Surinamese women minority there with that of African-American women in the United States. She interviewed 25 women, 14 Surinamese and 11 African-American. Her examination is neither intended as a theoretical treatise on racism nor a representative study of the issue in either country. It functions as a foundation for further research in the Netherlands and as a balance to more theoretical works. Recommended for multicultural women's studies collections.
