Stellar Sherie!!!!,
By Bettyboy72 "Thom" (Buffalo, New York United States) - See all my reviews

I sadly was unable to see "Everyday Rapture" but I purchased the CD having seen clips. Well, let me tell you that the divine Ms. Scott delivers the goods!!!! The voice is powerful and moving, the song selections are eclectic and transcendent and the performance is one for the ages. Her voice is unparalleled. She rocks, she grooves, she belts, and she takes it down and breaks your heart. I am really sad I never saw the show (Sherie, please record it or tour! PLEASE!!!) but I am glad the recording exists! Order it today-you won't be sorry. Stunning!

A good recording of a great show!,

I would like to add a review here, because opinions for this cast recording are woefully few and pretty much all over the map. Everyday Rapture was one of the best shows of the past theater season. Sherie Rene Scott was giving a performance that deserved a Tony. (She did earn two Tony nominations, one for Best Book and for Best Actress). The show was an extremely entertaining mix of stories, songs, cabaret and overall just great music!
On the cast recording the one major issue is that most of the dialogue from the show is left out and therefore the songs loose context. However, even if you haven't seen the show, the vocals and arrangements (by noneother than Tony award winning composer Tom Kitt) are fantastic. "The Weight" and "Up the Ladder to the Roof" are excellent. Overall the cast recording sounds good on it's own, but it really helps to have the context in which each of the songs are done. (Forget your troubles just isn't as funny without the visual of Sherie performing it to a room full of drooling nursing home patients). The bottom line is this. Sherie is a great performer and the cast recording sounds great. It might not have the impact of seeing the show live, but few cast recordings do. It is must for anyone who remotely likes Sherie Rene Scott and a must for fans of the show. Trivia Tidbit: The two bonus tracks included were part of the original ending off broadway.

No Rapture At All,
By Tom George (Wash. DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Everyday Rapture (Audio CD)
I don't get why people have this fascination with Ms. Scott. I have never been impressed with her in anything I've seen her do. She was downright terrible in The Little Mermaid, and thought she was fair in Aida. Her singing is nothing special, she sounds like thousands of other women capable of carrying a tune. I think her story is what people find so compelling (she was a hot blonde Amish girl, made a break for it and came to the Big City where she now lives with appliances and sin.) This CD does nothing to further her case as far as I am concerned.
