Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 3-Solid series entries. Each volume includes eight simple experiments. Required materials are listed in a separate box along with a full-color photograph of them. Additional photographs supplement the texts nicely and include children of different ethnic backgrounds. The large-print text will be easy for youngsters to read, although some of the captions are highlighted in yellow, which actually makes them more difficult to read. In Kitchen, activities range from using lemon juice to shine a penny to making a celery straw. While educational, the projects are also fun. For example, experiments in Food include recipes for making butter and homemade soda. A Web site to access more classic experiments is listed in each volume. These books are best used as introductions to science projects as the activities are very basic and would most likely not be appropriate for science fairs.
