5.0 out of 5 stars Owning Ramirez' book is a right - and a privilege

This review is from: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion: Investor's Business Daily Pulitzer Prize-Winning Editorial Cartoonist (Hardcover)
Double Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist Michael Ramirez' book, "Everyone has the right to my opinion," is brilliant. With evocative images and the economy of words that characterize the best of political cartooning, no one's oversized ego, or undeserved reputation is safe. Ramirez artfully savages strongly-held, but unexamined ideas. His pen devastates and dismantles in mere seconds what the best of columnists take several minutes to destroy.

Ramirez is the rarest of gems: a highly talented artist, a creative genius, a courageous journalist and a principled and thinking conservative. "Everyone has the right to my opinion," represents the highest level of craft in an art that, if practiced correctly, can have a deep impact on the American body politic.

Thomas Nast, the father of the modern American editorial cartoon, would be proud.

Reviewer: Chuck DeVore is a candidate for U.S. Senate in 2010, a California State Assemblyman, he served as a Special Assistant for Foreign Affairs in the Department of Defense from 1986 to 1988, retired from the Army National Guard as a lieutenant colonel, and is the co-author of "China Attacks."

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth-while, October 17, 2008
This review is from: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion: Investor's Business Daily Pulitzer Prize-Winning Editorial Cartoonist (Hardcover)
Creative, succinct, prodding, and funny, often hitting the nail on the head. Whether you agree with him nor not, he makes you think about issues that matter, or at least, should be considering seriously. If a picture is worth a thousand words, at times, his work can be worth ten or a hundred thousand of them. The detail of his work is outstanding, a master of his craft, which makes putting his illustrations together in a book a very worth-while venture. A must-have in your library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Michael Ramirez is in a league of his own, October 17, 2008
This review is from: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion: Investor's Business Daily Pulitzer Prize-Winning Editorial Cartoonist (Hardcover)
The present state of political cartooning is abysmal. It's hard to find a artist who's in the least funny anymore, let alone one whose drawings are pleasant to the eye. But Ramirez is unfailingly funny, often uncanny in the incisiveness of his wit, and so consistently well-informed that he's on the scent of politicians' latest foibles like a bloodhound. As if all that weren't already more than enough, his lavish visual artistry alone reaches the standards of the most accomplished illustrators. The irrefutable proof of the high level of Ramirez's talents are his two Pulitzers -- unheard of for a conservative commentator.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait, October 17, 2008

This review is from: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion: Investor's Business Daily Pulitzer Prize-Winning Editorial Cartoonist (Hardcover)
Michael Ramirez is certainly one of the premier editorial cartoonists working today, and well deserving of both Pulitzer Prizes he has won. I have been a huge fan of his for years and have been waiting for a collection of his work. It's been a long time coming, but "Everyone Has a Right To My Opinion" does not disappoint. I may not always agree with his point of view, but I marvel at the wit, clarity and skill with which he expresses it. I hope this is the first of many to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ramirez Sets the Bar, October 20, 2008
By
This review is from: Everyone Has the Right to My Opinion: Investor's Business Daily Pulitzer Prize-Winning Editorial Cartoonist (Hardcover)
While many with hard-to-open-minds think Michael Ramirez merely sits "at" a bar, the truth is that he actually raises it sky high. His artistry is clean and eloquent...but the real skill is in how those crafted lines draw you in and make you think. Art and words combine for a potent one-two punch to the cranium that make you laugh, want to cry, and always think.

It's about time he's put a 'best of' together. Now, the real questions, is, "when is the next one coming out"?
