4.0 out of 5 stars Love the pilot!
This is a much forgotten album from the 80's. Astley, who is better known as a producer who remastered all the albums for the Who, put out this terrific catchy album full of paraniod feelings of love and angst. "The Emperor" and "Better Never Than Late" shows his fear written with a great sense of humor. Give it a listen and pick up this gem.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Album
Of course I got this album because of the 1st track. I love the 80's sound and the song "Jane's getting serious", fits in with that danceballad genre. The entire album has 'it' with his signature voice, the sound stays pretty much the same, but I wish he had done more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overlooked, but still a little gem, September 27, 2005
This review is from: Everyone Loves the Pilot (Except the Crew) (Audio CD)
Everyone knows about Astley's skill as a producer, but his personal music went largely overlooked. I heard "Jane's getting serious" on alternative rock stations, and it had a bit of airplay, but the rest of the album went ignored. Big mistake. He writes modestly intelligent rock, and has a way with a catchy bit of rhythm guitar and keyboards. The beats are always just a bit different than what you would expect, and are very hypnotic. Worth a listen... There are a few cuts that are marginal, but "Jane", and "Target Practise" and "Better Never than Late" are good tunes. "Jane" is particularly good, and deserved the airplay it got.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, January 16, 2004

I love all the songs on this album. Yes, I am an 80's brat. Yes, I own the vinyl. I was thrilled to update my album to the CD. It is mellow, 80's sounding, and new wave.

The writing is solid, the production quality was outstanding in its day (and is still respectable even for today's standards) and I still listen to it from track 1 to track 10 after 15 or so years of owning it.

As others have said, I wish he had done more albums.
