4.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly underrated band!

4.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly underrated band!, April 12, 2006
This review is from: Everyone Is Out to Get Us (Audio CD)
In their debut album, Far-Less emerge out of a thick smoke of aggressive, screamy, hardcore acts with pop sensibilities to unveil a style immediately reminiscent of Classic Case and Glassjaw. Still, to throw them into a box labeled a certain way would be giving this band way too little credit.

On their debut EP, we heard a band who were growing and maturing, and while their sound was scattered, it seems their focus wasn't lost. "Everyone Is Out To Get Us" reveals an array of songs, from staggered chord blasts on "Jumping The Shark" to mellow, rhythmical, and ambient guitar hooks on "It Gets Complicated." At moments, the band pummels you with intense breakdowns and chaotic drumming, and at other moments the band falls into grooving, driving guitar riffs. At every moment, the harmonies are on target, and while sometimes it's hard to keep up with the occassionally confusing tempo changes and melody changes, the band is consistently one thing: different. All of the songs tend to have a different appeal and mood, and while sometimes the listener might find themselves getting confused with all the soundscapes this band travels on, fans of heavy, belligerent rock who are fans of superb drumming, time and chord changes, and relatively catchy vocals will find a nice sound in Far-Less.

Truly, the most interesting thing about the first full-length from Far-Less is their ability to be screaming and smashing chords together one second, and the next swirling things into catchy, harmonious anthems. Though the band is surely not donig anything truly ground-breaking, each song is refreshing in its own way, and yet it seems their stylistic ambitions aren't outweighed by their ability to maintain fluidity.

This a really good album. I'll make my praise for it quick. Everyone on this album are talented musicians. Most noteworthy of them all is the singer(Is his name Brandon?) He ads extra depth to the songs and his voice is one of the best i have heard. The drummer moves like crazy on the drums, and the guitars are pretty good(no break out solos, though) The bassist has some cool parts in the songs too. Get this CD, it will be worth it, trust me. I can't wait untill their next album, i fully expect for it to blow me away.

5.0 out of 5 stars unexpected by welcome, October 17, 2006

the market is flooded with bands that people think are creative. Sure a band can go from big breakdowns and screaming to slowing it down and singing... that has all been done before. but how bands do you know can go from thrashing riffs and screaming to a jazz outro on one song? Or from big spoken word entries to huge melodic choruses that are so catchy but at the same time do not match the hectic music under it? not many bands can do this...
far-less not only can
they do it very well
A lot of albums are defined by a certain sound. A lot of styles are defined by passing trends. But the core of who a person is....? well there is so much to be said in each emotion. A person can be sad, happy, angry, furious, giddy, silly, ridiculous...
far-less are the whole person when it comes to music
(but I should quick to state that we should leave out the adjective of boring or any words similar to that)
the whole person of who they are their music...
They enter venues in normal clothes... not trying to be defined by scenes and genres. They just try to be who they are. And musically they are fans of all sorts of music and that comes out in their songs. And with this being their first full length on a recognized label... well I know they have a lot more finding of themselves that they need to do.
and I know that the journey will be one I want to take my ears on.

This is the type of band that you'll still be blown away listening to their first album while taking a break from being blown away by their fifth album...

beware screamo bands
beware
far-less is here to show your fans that music is so much more than you offer them...

5.0 out of 5 stars This Didn't Suprise Me lol, March 24, 2006
This review is from: Everyone Is Out to Get Us (Audio CD)
When I picked up Far-Less's EP "Turn To The Bright" I had a feeling they were going to blow me away with there full lenght release. "Everyone Is Out To Get Us" is absolutly amazing...which opens the musical doors widely for other Christian rock acts that are coming out with discs in '06. They use there hardcore-eqe style mix it with rock and metal and use melodies that I can only describe as 90's revival (because they remind me of older alternative bands). Definatly an all around great buy....money WELL spent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than their previous effort, March 22, 2010

This review is from: Everyone Is Out to Get Us (Audio CD)
This is a pretty good heavy metal album, and I see how this band is trying to move metal forward, but I just think that it is missing the elements that could make them great.

The vocals seem out of place with the music, and the music is pretty good, but not great.

My favorite song on the album is Jumping the Shark because it has a sense or urgency and purpose.

Apparently there are avid fans of this group, as there should be, and they love this album. So...

If you are into this band, then buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another completely undiscovered and very talented ROCK act, August 28, 2006
This review is from: Everyone Is Out to Get Us (Audio CD)
I'll start by saying the bands that Far-Less is grouped with is completely off. These guys sound more like Hoobastank with some metal thrown in here and there more than anything else....and the genre, though most say this band is too hard to define, is undoubtedly ROCK...or if you're into specifics, Alternative Rock. Anyway, This should be grouped with bands like Breaking Benjamin, Hooba, Finch, etc...just plain good music and if you're hesitant based upon the "similar items" category then quite literally pay no mind at all because it's not alike most of them and you're missing out if you haven't heard this cd. Also, the other 2 cd's by this band are great too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music makes you feel so alive..., February 12, 2006
This review is from: Everyone Is Out to Get Us (Audio CD)
Alright so I'm at my favorite local record store with my friend and this band is setting up a couple feet from us. They're about to play an acoustic showcase of their work. Later, I find out this band is called Far-Less. I stuck around, they looked nice enough and you gotta support the local music... especially since good music is hard to come by around here. Anyway I'm like to hell with it let's get their album. It dropped that day I was in the store and the fact that they were there and gave you a free t-shirt didn't hurt either. What I come to find out is that these guys are the real deal. They're not just some little band messing around. They can actually play! And they're funny. Sometimes bands don't relate well to fans but they're probably some of the nicest guys you'd ever meet. But back to what's really important: the MUSIC. This album has anything and everything you'd ever want. It can be loud, and in your face and it can still be loud but in an endearing sort of way. I know that's vague and it's hard to describe but the music is really relateable. My favorite of the moment on the record is Too Pretty (To Be A Zombie)... I saw them perform it live twice (one acoustic and one like the album) and it blew me away. Another gem is Garage Band Degree. Brandon sings his ass off on this album. Every single song seems like it could be a hit (but I kind of hope it remains underground) I can't wait for them to come out with another. If you ever get a chance to see these guys live do it. They'll show you a good time. In the meantime- GET THIS ALBUM. It's worth it.

So this is pretty much the best cd I've ever listened to. The theme and the lyrics are priceless. The music is just... I'm in awe. Amazing drumming, and don't even get me started on Brandon's voice. I recommend this CD to ANYONE. I think anyone could listen to this and like it. It's just that good. My favorites are "Jumping the Shark" and "Too Pretty (to Be a zombie)" and "Everyone is out To get us" .... I love them all though. They're the best. GET THIS CD, YOU WONT REGRET
