There is a lot in Demons and warfare to like. It provides some good tips on living righteously and being prepared for the spiritual battles every Christian faces. However, my main problem with the book is that it reads a lot into scripture that just isn't there. 5.0 out of 5 stars Your Complete Guide to Spiritual Warfare, October 14, 2010

This review is from: Everyone's Guide to Demons & Spiritual Warfare: Simple, Powerful Tools for Outmaneuvering Satan in Your Daily Life (Paperback)
When I began reading "Demons & Spiritual Warfare", my first thought was "sheesh, Ron Phillips is smart!" Then the next thought was, "every single Christian needs to read this!" This book is chock full of information, details, and wisdom. I am reading it for the second time and have already began finding details that I didn't ingest the first go round. I have a feeling if I read it a third time, the same thing would happen again.

Ron Phillips has brought to light many details that have been misunderstood by the greater majority of Christians concerning who Satan is, the fall of Satan and his followers, and the consequential effect on this earth. Satan does not live in hell at the moment, he is ruling on this earth seeking those who he can take to hell with him. His fall caused a cataclysmic destruction of earth. God has since recreated earth and placed man here to have dominion. Satan, as the serpent, took that dominion away from man through the fall of Adam and Eve. Now man has to retake back everything Satan has stolen. The good news is that the victory has already been won; we just have to enforce it.

The battle between good and evil was settled on the cross. Satan lost! Jesus made a public show of Satan and his followers. But until the judgment, Satan is going about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. To put it lightly, Satan was not a good loser. He is determined to steal as many of God's creations, man, as he can. He vows to take as many of God's children to hell as he can as payback for his defeat. Satan was not pleased that God created man and has given man the opportunity to rule and reign with Christ. When we make the decision to be followers of Christ, we become joint-heirs and we sit with Him in the heavenlies. That places us above the prince and principalities of the air, making Satan our footstool. He is beneath our feet!

We, as Christian, have to take the authority given to us by God Himself and enforce the victory against the enemy. We have all power and authority needed to do just that. We just have to walk in it and exercise it. Satan doesn't want us to know that he is already defeated. He wants us to bow and cower in fear to him and his demonic spirits that attempt to derail us everyday. Ron Phillips has done an excellent job explaining the power and tools available to us as King's Kids. He has step by step instructions on recognizing and defeating the enemy daily. He has listed the weapons the enemy uses to distract, oppress, and ultimately destroy believers. We must be wise and recognize Satan for what he is - a usurper and trespasser on God's earth. We must remember to focus on Christ and not on the power of the enemy. "Strong man that he is, he has been dispossessed by one stronger! Satan and the forces of hell are on a short leash since Calvary. We are not fighting for victory but rather from victory. The bottom line of spiritual warfare is applying and enforcing the victory of the cross and upon the enemy." We must remember "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil." (1 John 3:8) "The scripture teaches us that Satan has been stripped of his right, power, and authority over all those who have bowed at the foot of the cross and received the precious blood of Christ as atonement for their sin." The blood left Satan powerless. We must understand and operate from that knowledge. We can't, as believers, believe the lies of the devil but we must believe the truth of the Word of God. Satan has no right to buffet us with difficulties or to steal our joy! He has no right to attack our children or our finances. We must stop backing up as he attempts to destroy us and we must move forward with the whole armor of God and offensively attack him and his powerless subordinates. The victory is won!
Our authority comes from Jesus Christ. Everything that is under His feet is also under the believer's feet. We must come to the realization that Satan will try to destroy us or at the very least neutralize us. But we don't have to sit back and take it; we have all power and authority to stop him in his tracks. We must arm for victory. Ron Phillips explains each part of the armor of God and how to utilize it. God has provided every tool we need in order to win the battle. We must use what is available to us by the blood of the Lamb. We have the tools, we must wield them.
This is a very in depth body of work. Ron Phillips has brought together the history, the devices of Satan, and the strategy used to destroy God's family. He has also given us the wisdom needed to fight the good battle and win. Victory has already been won, we just have to enforce it!

5.0 out of 5 stars PUTTING ON GOD'S ARMOR, October 7, 2010

This review is from: Everyone's Guide to Demons & Spiritual Warfare: Simple, Powerful Tools for Outmaneuvering Satan in Your Daily Life (Paperback)
While reading this book I went thru a literal spiritual transformation. It starts out very basic, getting to know your enemy, and builds to claiming victory over ALL evil spiritual enemies. All of the prayers in most chapters were very helpful and I felt better and better as I read thru the book. It was as if the chains of bondage in my life were being broken as I prayed each prayer out loud. If you are looking to break strongholds that Satan and his Demons have in your life, or just looking to renew your mind and spirituality, then you must read this book.

It is a book that you can both learn from and apply. If more churches in the world taught the things in this book, the world would truely be a different place. As a reference, you will find yourself going back to the book time after time to re-read and saying the prayers as the enemy tries attacking you again to reclaim his strongholds. This is a book you will need to keep handy as your solid foundation in your daily walk with Christ. This is not a feel good book like so many being published today that leave you feeling empty. It is literally fire and brimstone Christian teaching at it's best! It is by far THE BEST Christian book I have ever read, and I have literally read hundreds thru the years. It's almost like taking all those books and compiling them into one handy, easy to read book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A guide book to help overcome, repell and defeat evil spirits in your life, October 7, 2010
By
This review is from: Everyone's Guide to Demons & Spiritual Warfare: Simple, Powerful Tools for Outmaneuvering Satan in Your Daily Life (Paperback)
One of the best spiritual warfare books I have read. It is imminently readable especially for the beginner. It does not read like a text book but rather a guide to learning how to help intercede in the battle against satan and his minions in our everyday life. North America is one of the places where demonic spirits are not really a part of basic beliefs, they are treated like cartoon characters instead of the very powerful ex-angles that they in reality are. We need to be more careful of how we guard ourselves and our minds. This book is an excellent guide at helping to define the areas where evil spirits like to insinuate themselves and take up residence, it also has an effective battle plan to defeat them and then prevent them from coming back to reclaim their home and bring along friends. Definitely a must a read.

This review is from: Everyone's Guide to Demons & Spiritual Warfare: Simple, Powerful Tools for Outmaneuvering Satan in Your Daily Life (Paperback)
In a simple to understand method Pastor Ron Phillips lays out the reasons for many of our problems. Most people suffer needlessly due to hardship, pain, loss, and torment because they do not understand where these things come from. He gives insight that many come simply because we live in a world that God has allowed Satan some residual power over us. Yet, God provided a way out of that fallen condition, and the torment that comes with it...that answer is Jesus. Some come because of our own ignorance and actions. When we educate ourselves on what to look for in the spirit world (yes, there are good spirits and evil spirits) we are better equipped to arm ourselves to fight the battle in order to win. We may at times end up with some battle scars, but we do not need to be mortally wounded by them. This book will teach you how to fight and ward off evil spirits and to how to use your spiritual authority.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Worthy Arsenal-Building Tool, October 20, 2010
This review is from: Everyone's Guide to Demons & Spiritual Warfare: Simple, Powerful Tools for Outmaneuvering Satan in Your Daily Life (Paperback)

Pastor and author Ron Phillips tackles a comprehensive overview of how to navigate -- and survive -- interfaces with evil in the world.

In Everyone's Guide to Demons and Spiritual Warfare, contained in 273 pages and 40 chapters, Phillips takes us through a compendium of spiritual warfare topics, including:

- Knowing the History of Your Enemy

- Identifying the Symptoms of Demonic Activity

- Defeating Satan's Strategies

- Arming Yourself for Victory

When I got this book I found myself over the next few days diving in chapter for chapter with interest. I discovered new facts from the Bible to support the thesis of spiritual warfare, and plumbed some of my own personal depths and experiences in chapters devoted to a series of specific strategies the adversary attempts.

Phillips, a pastor of a Tennessee congregation, is at his best when disclosing his own personal dealings and travails in this realm, and when imbibing the book with plenty of modern-day popular references as he imparts a scholarly understanding of Biblical history on the subject. His past mastery of the topic lends a solid foundation for future chapters' instructional guidances.

Phillips' goal, it's clear, is not only to prove the history, reality and vitality of a battle with evil, but to arm readers for the fight. As such, readers traverse scripture from Job to Revelation in this book, and come away with more than entertaining and informative academics, but a fresh arsenal of empowerment.

There is a lot in Demons and warfare to like. It provides some good tips on living righteously and being prepared for the spiritual battles every Christian faces. However, my main problem with the book is that it reads a lot into scripture that just isn't there. In other words, it's his own personal opinions based on things scripture says, but the author really has to strain to make the connection. I've never seem someone try so hard to find a hidden meaning behind every word or sentence written in the Word.

For example, a verse that says Demons roam the land is then taken to mean that they don't like water. I was intrigued by his interpretation of early creation how the earth "became" void, but I'm just not sure it stands up to scrutiny. If there was no light, how did the dinosaurs survive... or the plants they ate? We know light wasn't created until the first day, long after the author believes dinosaurs existed. This also doesn't explain other prehistoric animals alive today or those even mentioned in the bible. One of which is Leviathan, which the author believes is a demon. Again, this just doesn't stand up.

Every description in the Bible of the Leviathan talks of a real creature, not a spiritual demon. Furthermore, Psalm 104, starting in vs. 25 says: "Here is the ocean, vast and wide, teeming with life of every kind... and Leviathan, which you made to play in the sea." Did God make demons to "play"? Going a couple verses further down, vs 31 says "The Lord takes pleasure in all he has made." We know God did not create demons. He created Angels, demons are corrupted angels. God created the Leviathan and takes pleasure in it. This is not a demon. Unfortunately the author spends several pages talking about the "spirit of Leviathan" and using it to talk about how it is used against us.

The author suggests that the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil was planted by Satan. I find no scriptural support for that and it seems to disagree with God giving us free will. If there is no other option, then free will is a myth. God had to provide the option for us to choose.

There is one correlation made with Christians praying for God to bless our food when our hearts are not pure to tainted food making it's way into our homes and restaurants. I'm just not finding the correlation here.

The author does a great job of using scripture to outline how to live a righteous life, unfortunately it is in contexts that just don't bear out. Using scripture to tell us to hold our tongue is great Christian doctrine. But there is simply no scriptural correlation between holding our tongue and defeating the "Spirit of Cain." So while the practical applications in this book is something every christian needs to read, the foundation used to write about those applications is flimsy at best. Too many times a scripture is used and a point is made but there really is no connection between the two other than in the authors imagination. But what's worse, is that when the author knows he cannot connect the dots, he says "the holy spirit revealed this to me." That just closes the door to any other interpretation or disagreement.

This review is from: Everyone's Guide to Demons & Spiritual Warfare: Simple, Powerful Tools for Outmaneuvering Satan in Your Daily Life (Paperback)
This book will become a field guide to anyone who feels the call of Jesus to intercessory prayer! The book has been anointed by God so that as one reads it, one is educated, equipped, and inspired to take his/her place on the wall of Intercessors!
When I began the book, I was cautious to even begin to read it because of the title. So many times I have read books on this topic to finish feeling overwhelmed and dirty! But not this book! This book is easy to read. It does not glorify the enemy. It fortifies the Christian while teaching us to war!
Ron Phillips hands to us a concise battlefield guide that enables victory in every aspect of our lives. With a wealth of Biblical truth he takes us from puny little scared children to fully armed soldiers enforcing God's victories all over the world as well as in our own homes! What a gift to the end time Church! This book is a must read! I will keep this one next to my Bible! And guess what my grown children will get for Christmas! You guessed it - a copy of this book!
