This guide gives you all the basics: rod, reel, line, flies and more. It's a fun book, especially with the easy to read text and great art. The text is in large, hand printing, which makes it easy and fast to read. Further, the book is packed with essential info., such as reading water, catch and release and conservation. Also included are very good coverage of knot tying, casting a fly and needed tackle. You even get a page on hook removal, should you snag yourself. The clincher of this guide is the light, breezy way author and artist worked together to produce a delightful guide for fishers and general reader alike. Highly recommended

This is a serious beginner's fly fishing handbook. There is so much information packed in here and the illustrations are even better than photos or video.

My only suggestion for improvement might be a "Quick Start" guide in 1-2 pages at the start of the book. Then again, if you don't have enough time to read this book before heading out, you probably don't have time to fish.
