This review is from: Everything is Alive, Everything is Breathing, Nothing is Dead & Nothing is Bleeding (Audio CD)
First time I heard these guys I COULDN'T STAND THEM AT ALL, mainly because of the feedback.
But hey, I kept listening to them and the next thing I knew they were my favorite band. I'm into the Christian hardcore scene right now, and these guys are by far my fav. Yea it's raw, and most people listen and say that "there's no talent" and it's "just noise and feedback". Yea the feedback is annoying when you first hear them, but after you listen for a while you start to appreciate that it's there for a reason and it only makes the song sound more powerful. Personally, the highlight of this disk for me would be Scogin's vocals. I haven't heard the entire BTMAKTC disk, so I can't compare them (nor do I want to, since this clearly is NOT norma jean). Anyone who can scream like that is NOT human. The instruments and his voice generate pure chaos...good stuff. If you're more into the organized metalcore stuff...then go for Zao or Haste the Day...but if you want something that'll leave you thinking "Man...I wish I had the energy to do that" freaking listen to this stuff. It's great. Lots of my friends complain about the vocals. They say that there's no talent because all he is doing is screaming, and anyone can do that. Hah, sure everyone can scream but how many people's screams sound as perfect as Scogin's? The screaming emphasises what the lyrics, it's not there to make up for a lack of singing talent. Scogin is amazing, simply put. Like Norma Jean, the lyrics are kinda cryptic... But if you keep in mind that they're Christians they can be deciphered (or you can just ask them on Myspace =P) BTW, this pistol is my ministry doesn't have anything to do with Indians, it's about how people are trying to do good things using harmful tools and don't recognmize it...whoever wrote that review a while ago. As for the songs: 1)Before There Was Atlanta, There Was Douglasville (8/10) - Great intro, doesn't really get as intense as the other songs... I love the begining with the "ten thousand times ten thousand" (which I'm guessing refers to angels) 2)Someday, In the Event That Mankind Actually Figures Out What It Is That... (7/10) - Good song...title is long which is creative but kinda dumb lol, i dunno. Good song but nothing really special. 3)Dialogue With a Question Mark (9/10) - Just sheer brutality. 4)Die Interviewer (10/10) - hahaha banjo opening is crazy, ending has so much energy it's amazing. The "DON'T SAY" screamed 32534673573 times and then the deep...almost demonic voice screaming it in the back of Scogin's throat as the song closes and Scogin continues to scream his lungs out. Freaking Amazing. 5)And Then, Came Then (235235632462346/10) - Best song on the disk. Opens up with the violin, all calm...you just get the feeling that this song is going to be EPIC...which it is...since it's singing about the apocalypse :O). After the violin comes Scogin w/ his scary-satanic deep screaming voice and then the normal screaming. The lyrics are great, and after all the lyrics and chaos the song pauses and kinda fades out for a moment, then zooms back with a melodic and heavy ending. By far the greatest song on the album. 6)Company, The Comfort, The Grave (9/10) - Good song, and I don't like the music video. The message is awesome and it's also heavy. 7) Bullet Never Lies, And Will Prove All Things (An Allegory of Unfaithful (9/10) - Just amazing... "Hello America, where is your fortune!?" 8)Yellow Dress: Locked Knees (250/10) - This song SCARED the crap out of me the first time I listened to it. The screams are really...really forced out of Scogin...almost impossible to understand. Then he gets into the spanish. Sounds like Satan :O). Probably the only song I'd classify as "sounding evil" on this disk, and I know he's singing about Jesus and loving Him and stuff lol...pretty funny. It's just a terrifying song, I love it so much. 9)If Wishes Were Horses More Beggars Would Ride Them (8/10) - Calm opening...then BAM! in the face. good song. 10)Good Night My Lady, And a Forever Farewell (10/10) - Great closing song. Very very heavy and AWESOME lyrics...the pause and then the "SITUATED just below the ground, just ABOVE YOUR HEAD!" sends chills down my spine everytime i listen to it. All in all, don't buy this disk if you can't take chaos. Take time to appreciate the lyrics too...good stuff.

This album is freakin AMAZING. It sounds weird, but I just can't gte enough of the intentional feedback they have on their guitars. Adds a pretty cool element to pauses.
The lyrics are amazing as expected, the drums are blasting, the guitars are extremely tight, and the screams make my head spin. Buy this album today.

Chaotic Metal: Definitely An Acquired Taste,

I got a good laugh out of the sticker on the corner of "Everything Is Alive..." that read something like "For Fans of Opeth, Unearth, and ASHLEE SIMPSON". A band on Solid State Records that sounds like a mediocre pop "star"? Yeah right; this band definitely has sense of humor.
When I first played the CD, I listened to the first track all the way through. I absolutely hated it. I then skipped through all the other tracks and listened to about 30 seconds of each. More of the same. I couldn't believe that I had wasted my money on this pile of slow-paced loud noisy garbage. The guitar feedback grated on my eardrums, and I ended up with a massive headache. Needless to say, I took a break from The Chariot for a while. A few weeks later, however, the song "Die Interviwer" popped up on my mp3 player's random shuffle, so I listened to the whole song. I could actually tolerate it. Soon, I started listening to more and more songs from the album, and I was amazed by the realness of the sound, and the incredible brutality of it all: the ripping guitars, the pounding drums, and the lead singer, who roars like a man possessed. I listened to the album all the way through, and I was hooked. The Chariot is a truly incredible band, and is nothing like I've ever heard before. They draw a listener in more than Norma Jean ever will. They are just as amazingly brutal in concert, also. However, a word of warning: You cannot just start listening to this band. A love of metal is required, and you have to be open to new styles. I would recommend listening to bands such as Becoming the Archetype before picking this album up. But it is well worth it; listening to The Chariot is a breathtaking experience.

I made an account with amazon.com for the sole purpose of reviewing this album.
The first thing you'll notice when you pop this baby into your cd player is the sound. Raw, gritty, and unorganized are the first words that come to mind. This album was recorded live without the assistance of computers of any kind. Nodding back to the "authentic sound of rock and roll" The Chariot decided to ignore the standard in production in order to rock it LIVE instead...amazing. When this fact is taken into consideration you will be in awe by the practice and dedication that went in to making this beast the monster that it is. The only downfall here comes from the distortion that you'll pick up from the clashing sounds. This, however, isn't a big deal at all, and you'll quickly ignore it. Each song incorporates intricate guitars and tight drumming. Prepare to mosh because this is incredibly brutal with frequent breakdowns. The lyrics are amazing, where songs have deeper meanings then what appears on the surface. The vocals range from a high pitched hardcore scream to the deepest metal growl i've ever heard. Personally, i'm not the biggest fan of hardcore/metal vocals, but the range that Josh Scogin posesses is incredible. Although inaudible at some times, the lyrics are easier to understand than Scogins previous releases: Luti-kriss/Norma Jean. Perhaps the greatest thing of all is The Chariot's religous affiliations. Worshipping Christ Jesus through music is an incredible gift. However, passing up this piece of brilliance because of your differing religous views would be a BIG mistake. My personal favorite track is 5: "And Then, Came Then." Also make sure to check out the home movie feature contained on this Enhanced CD...it's hilarious. I HIGHLY recommend this album to anyone. 5 stars, without a doubt.

This review is from: Everything is Alive, Everything is Breathing, Nothing is Dead & Nothing is Bleeding (Audio CD)
Firstly, this album truly blew my ears open and made me weep. It finds brutality and sheer power in music and opens it up. EVERYONE STOP COMPARING THEM TO NORMA JEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And as for Norma Jean ok, yeah there a good band but hellooooo BOTCH anyone.. O' God the aftermath????? you mean O' God yeah its been a few years since We Are The Romans and An Anthology of Dead Ends..so maybe now we can get away with stealing a few breakdowns... The Chariot is amazing. Dont buy into any of the reviews which knock it. Its a good piece of work.

The Ch Ch Ch Ch Ch Ch Chariot!!!!,
This review is from: Everything is Alive, Everything is Breathing, Nothing is Dead & Nothing is Bleeding (Audio CD)
Well, obviously if you are looking at the reviews for this CD you may be seeing that people either LOVE this CD or HATE this CD. I am one of those that LOVE it. The Chariot is mainly a thrash band without the 30 second songs. They have all the brutality of The Locust, Et Tu Brute? and bands in that genre without having 1.) The blood lusty, depressing lyrics, and 2.) The half minute songs that all sound the same after an hour of listening.
The Chariot is fronted by Josh Scogin of Norma Jean (Who, by the way, does a LOT better than the new vocalist they have). He has a huge range with his vocals and brings over his trademark long song titles for this CD. (Check out the title for track #2) But the lyrics he writes are poetic and uplifting, not dark and disturbing like others in the genre. And if you pick up "Everything Is Alive..." check out their "Unsung EP" with some new music and a concert video that is wicked. Bottom line is, though, you are going to like it or hate it. So maybe borrow it before you buy it to check it out. But if you are a fan of Norma Jean or even As I Lay Dying, you should give it a once over.

On the cover of chariot's "everything is alive, everything is breathing, nothing is dead and nothing is bleeding", you'll find a little sticker that says; FOR FANS OF: NORMA JEAN, ZAO AND ASHLEE SIMPSON. It's a joke. Just thought i'd clear that up, considering that more than one "reviewer" thought it was for real. tards'...

this cd almost makes me breakdown into cliche musical review prose where i might have to say something like, this is of superlative visionary kaleidoscopic pyschedelia, rolling like a monstrous fecal fog upon the unsuspecting audial goblin kingdoms only to shatter ones forested consciousness with an armegeddon of un-branded chugga chugga, syncopated weeeeeee, and the apocolyptic crunch of analog ecstasy... or some other completely useless description. what, anyway, this cd is about fun and 15 peices of flare. i guess if you are really into hardcore from 1998 and that type of sound then you might not like the chariot. or perhaps your guilty pleasure is nu metal, then id not recommend this, nay, avoid completely otherwise risk clawing your way out of the Clearchannel abyss. my mom doesnt like this cd either but she is mostly down with classical music like itzhak perlman so she doesnt count. most likely if yer wearing your pants tight, then yes, you will love this cd more than you love whale-free apple fritters. but neither are prerequisites. yes i said exquisite when i was talking about josh's vocals on this cd, even more twitterpating than in norma jean. and taco falls down every 5 seconds from circlekicking so hard which is what all the feedback is from. and we all know it says right in the bible that you can circlekick your way into heaven so why player hate him for that. detroit what. and so in summary, this cd sounds kind of like sort of maybe etid, onbrokenwings, botch, norma jean obviously, but mostly it sounds like the chariot oh haha I heard theyve been Nominated for Best Dischord and Best Disco Breakdown 13 years in a row and you cant argue with statistics and numbers like that.
