If you read this book you'll have enough to get on your way as an artist not necessarily as a music entrepreneur. Thought the book is week on the independent label start up side, this is a must read wont feel cheated! Kashif presents the infromation in a clear and concise manner, its almost as if you were engaged in conversation with him. It takes you through every step of record contracts, royalties, publishing, production deals, management, and accounting. I find myself reffering to it time and time again!

This book offers sound advice as well as solid examples of contracts and situations you'll be faced with. It makes a positive yet realistic view of the music biz and puts it all in perspective. It made me feel like I'll be face to face with Kashif one day soon, thanking him for writing this book. Though not a book targeted for a specific field, which does make it handy for all readers, it reveals what to look for in the first place.

This is a great book. I first purchased Donald Passmans book "Everything You Need To Know About The Music Buiness' - a must have book for anyone interested in this subject, but as a complete newbie, also a bit overwhelming. This book is easier to read, gives a good introduction and overview of the topic and helps to simplify some of the things Passman talks about. I highly recommend both of them if you're serious about this subject.

I thought that this book is very basic and give a good description about
what goes on in making deals and what you should and shouldn't look for.
I think that it needs revision because now music is more cyber Internet related
so the game has slightly been changed.
However, it is a good read and I would recommend it for anyone who wants to know the basics
about the music business.

this book is very much on point.it pulls no punches everything you need to know&how to handle your business uncut.not only is Kashif a Solid Musician but He also is a On-Point Author here.this is the kind of Book that any Artist,Group,etc.. heading into the Biz should read backwards&forwards&again&again.you always hear stories of getting Ripped off within in the Business&this Book will safe a many Career from going on "Behind the Music" saying the same Line.

I read every page of this book and it is an absolute must-have for anyone interested in the music business. There are many beneficial pointers and the author covers every aspect of the business. It's like the Bible for dealing with the industry. You will not be disappointed and it's relevant for any genre of music.

I'm sure this book was really useful when it was written. Unfortunately, that was back in 1996, a few years before Internet file sharing began. Things in the music business have changed a lot since then, so this book is seriously deficient for people interested in the business of music as it is today.

Although I can't recommend the book -- unless it goes into a second edition with revisions to bring it into the present -- I can't say it's not a good book. It _is_ good, but it's also obsolete.

As a business development consultant I have been involved in the music industry for over 15 yrs. I have acquired a large collection of industry books that are essential to my work for clients. When someone lost my last copy of this book I had to quickly replace it, it is that important as a reference work. That's the most important thing I can say about this book, I use it more than any other to guide my work, compare to other works and to educate my clients about their chosen career. I always been a fan of Kashif both as a singer and producer. I highly recommend this book to gain greater insights in the Music business or any business.
