Book Description

For years, Nana Vancy Bashalde Salo believed that she d cursed her own family with bad weddings. Now that the curse is broken, she s bored. Her best friends, the Silver Bells, convince her to try her hand at matchmaking. And Nana has just the person in mind: Salo Construction's new office manager, Eve Allen. Eve is coming out of a bad relationship and longs for a little quiet and order. That's definitely not in the cards with Nana Vancy around. And it's even less possible when Nana tries to hook her up with TC Potter, a boy who broke her heart in kindergarten when he told her there was no Santa Claus, and then broke it again in ninth grade when he stood her up for a dance. Eve's heart is still healing from her last bad relationship she doesn t need it broken by TC for a third time. Freelance writer TC Potter makes his living writing articles about Every American Man. His life was pretty much perfect until he was named one of America s most eligible bachelors last year. He's spent the last twelve months hiding out from women who'd like to de-bachelor him. Now he's finally met someone he d really like to date, but Eve isn't interested. Maybe with a Hungarian grandmother s help, and a little Christmas magic, he can convince her that they have something too special to ignore.

4.0 out of 5 stars wonderful Christmas surprise December 25, 2009
Format:Hardcover
In Erie, Pennsylvania Hungarian expatriate Nana Vancy Salo has spent a lifetime fighting the Salo Family Wedding Curse that haunted her descendents whenever one of her blood relatives was about to marry. However, the curse has been broken and all of her grandchildren happily married. Instead of resting and enjoying life, she feels lost with no purpose.

Nana Vancy tells her Silver Bells friends Isabel Henning and Annabelle Connor that she is bored though she is elated the curse has ended as she feared she would never see that day. Annabelle suggests Vancy become a matchmaker as she shown a propensity with her grandchildren (see Everything But a Groom, Everything But a Bride and Everything But a Wedding). Liking the idea, she thought she would try matching up her husband's office manager Eve Allen and next door neighbor TC Potter with plans of wedding bells for Christmas. After interrogating a bewildered Eve, she invites her to a family holiday dinner in which TC Potter is also invited after the hostess interrogated him re his status and learns of their past connections in kindergarten and high school.

This is a wonderful Christmas surprise (and not just for the confirmed bachelor who finds love with his Christmas Eve) as Holly Jacobs spins beyond the tale of the Salo Curse into a new matchmaking direction for Nana and the Silver Bells. Fans will enjoy this lighthearted frolic as the three BFFs orchestrate the Twelve Days of Christmas.

Nana Vancy Bashalde Salo has grown bored now that all of her grandchildren are happily married. Her two best friends, the "Silver Bells," come up with a brilliant idea... Nana Vancy should put those instincts to work as a matchmaker. After all, everyone knows a Hungarian grandmother has a sense about these sorts of things. Lucky for her, she has the ideal candidate in Eve Allen, just hired during the holidays to be the new office manager for Salo Construction.

Now Nana Vancy is up to her old tricks again trying to pair up her next door neighbor, TC Potter, with Eve. Little does Nana Vancy know that Eve and TC have a history, him having broken Eve's heart twice in the past during the Christmas season. The last person Eve would care to spend time with TC. However, when Nana Vancy sets her mind to something, there's no stopping her. She won't quit knowing TC has Everything but a Christmas Eve in his heart.

I love everything Holly Jacobs writes so I knew I would enjoy Everything but a Christmas Eve before I ever started it. As expected, this delightfully funny new installment in the Salo family saga kept me in stitches from beginning to end. It's impossible to resist a smile or a laugh when reading any book in this series. Yet there are tender moments as well.

Eve has had it rough for a while, recently ending a bad relationship and not exactly having much in the way of Christmas Spirit. All she wants to do is enjoy some peace and quiet, and get the office reorganized while everyone is off for the holidays. TC has had it pretty easy for most of his life, until recently when he was listed as one of America's most eligible bachelors. Now he has women swarming him trying to change his ways.

I chose this rating not because it was a literary masterpiece but that the idea carried throughout the book was extremely creative. Plus the characters were enjoyable. Pleasant reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4th book in a great series! January 24, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When I first picked up this book I was afraid I was going to dislike it. I do not really like stories where the people were a couple in the past , and they broke up , and are now getting together. Additionally, I was afraid that this book would not have the same feel to ti since it was not actually anyone in the family I had grown to love in the first 3 books.

But in spite of the write up, I read it. I am glad I did. This was not a story about a couple reuniting after a breakup. It was about a couple who never actually got together back when they first wanted to. This book is actually deeper in many ways than the previous 3. In it, it explores family relations and hurt feelings that have been hidden away since childhood.

While the other 3 books touched on it, the characters all had strong family ties that were lasting and constant. Eve and TC are not part of the large close but wacky Salo family, so they have had to be self reliant. It makes an entirely different dynamic, and very different feelings when the Salo family starts to help Nana Vancy matchmake them.

There is a balance of the higher emotions in this book of more subtle humor. For each moment of 'OMG, that is so sad' there is an ironic or comedic moment, like a tartan cape wearing duck, or a drooling snoring dog. It is a great book and it has made me happy that I read it.

More About the Author

Holly Jacobs leads a life full of romance and adventure. From skydiving to jet-setting around Europe, from snorkeling in coral reefs to writing while wearing beautiful silk peignoir sets and popping chocolate bonbons, Holly Jacobs leads a life that is the epitome of romance... Well, my fictional life sounds more interesting, but not better than my real life. Really, I'm the happily married mother of four. I cook a lot, garden and weave baskets! I write for Montlake Romance and Harlequin. My books range from lighthearted comedies to more serious dramas and now even mysteries...but at heart, they're all stories of love.

I don't always set out to write a series of books, but seem to find myself gravitating to them. Because so many people have asked, I've posted lists of all my series in order at www.hollyjacobs.com/bookseries.html. I really try to make each story stand alone, but many of my readers enjoy reading the series in order. Hope this helps!

Thank you to everyone who's picked up a single book, or more of them. I'm so lucky to be surrounded by so much support!

Holly

(PS I have had problems with books I didn't write being self-published here and listed 'by Holly Jacobs'. If you don't see this bio attached to a book it's not by me.)
