Biography

When the pop boy band Take That split in 1996, a nation of British teenage girls (and some adult men) mourned. When they reunited ten years later, their fans were still there for them and catapulted them to renewed success, even if the cheeky face of Robbie Williams was absent. Though they never broke America – only one of their pre-break-up singles charted there – their success in their homeland… Read more in Amazon's Take That Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Take That's 2nd Album delivers!, January 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Everything Changes (Audio CD)
Take That's 2nd brilliant album, released in 1993 features their first ever UK #1 single: 'Pray', and three more UK #1's ('Babe', 'Relight My Fire' and 'Everything Changes') plus the #2's 'Love Ain't Here Anymore' and the dance/ballad reworking of 'When will I wake up with you?'.

Though it features more ballads than 'Take That & Party', their first album, 'Everything Changes' features many a top dance tune too, including 'Pray', 'Relight My Fire' with the irrepresable Lulu, and 'You are the one'.

Also great to see is that all members but Jason get a chance to sing. Robbie on the title track, Howard on 'If this is love' and Mark on 'Babe'. Gary does most of the rest of the album.

Highlights include: 'Another Crack In My Heart', 'Pray', 'Everything Changes'.

All over, for quality and consistancy of work it is probably Take That's best album.

5.0 out of 5 stars US's Missing Link, February 26, 1999
By
yokoboy@hotmail.com (Northern California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Everything Changes (Audio CD)
Take That's second album (not released in the US) is the missing link which would explain to the American audience how the peppy boy-band who delivered the club favorites "Could It Be Magic" and "Do What U Like" could follow up by releasing an album of dark, brooding love songs ('Nobody Else'). Ironically enough, this missing piece to the puzzle is titled 'Everything Changes'.

This album, a combination of the peppy beat-laden pop which highlighted their debut and some very good blue-eyed soul ballads shows the change of direction being taken by the 'That' as they shed their teen idol image for one with more maturity. This point was completely missed in the US, and left us who loved the first album completely shocked when we bought their "follow up" album. Featuring a string of world-wide #1 hits, this album is probably the best of the three full-length releases. The singles, "Why Can't I Wake Up With You", "Pray", "Babe", "Everything Changes", "Love Ain't Here Anymore" and a remake of Dan Hartman's "Relight My Fire", are all top rate recordings and could have easily been hits here in the States. Unfortunately, us American Take That fans weren't given any say about it.

Besides the 6 singles, there are other noteworthy cuts on this album. Gary's "Another Crack In My Heart", "Wasting My Time" and "Broken Your Heart" are among his best; even Howard gets a spotlight on "If This Is Love", which isn't exactly the "barking seal" that the press claimed him to be.

Probably the best track on the album is "Love Ain't Here Anymore". Supposedly, this track was released in a different mix here in the US (it is featured on the 'Greatest Hits' lp), however I don't recall hearing this track until it appeared as the b-side of "Back For Good", the group's only US hit which wouldn't be released until 2 years later.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless Pop Music, April 6, 2006
By
Lina (Singapore, Singapore) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Everything Changes (Audio CD)
The fact that Gary Barlow wrote most of their songs and music for Take That clearly shows where the talent lies in Take That. The rest of the boys (yes, Robbie included) just never stood out. Nevertheless, they made a beautiful quintet - and yes, I admit, the fact that all of them looked pretty good helped heaps. But hey, that is music. Anyone who denies the whole package doesn't play a part and that "it's only the music" is a downright liar.

I got this album over twelve years ago and it still sounds relevant when I listen to it today. Some standouts are "Wasting My Time", "If This Is Love" and the tear-jerker "Love Ain't Here Anymore". Get this album. This is timeless pop music.
