I admit that I was a little dubious when Gary first asked me to write an endorsement for Everything Counts! After all, I am a big picture kind of guy who sees everything in my business and that of my clients from a 50,000 foot point of view. The chapters are not long and are easy to digest (which I personally, like). They will help you examine yourself and your character and evaluate what you can be doing better. Fear of change is a paralyzing factor that limits the individual's ability to achieve desired results. Without a roadmap of how to implement positive change into your life, most people are satisfied with mediocre results. "Everything Counts" can help you recognize your strengths and weaknesses so that you can improve the areas that are holding you back and let go of bad habits that no longer serve you.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to implement positive change into their business and personal life. Well done.
I included this book in my morning reading, and found reading this book was an inspiring and motivating way to start the day. By coincidence, the chapter on gratitude happened to be the chapter I read on Thanksgiving morning. It brought a little extra thought and meaning to start the holiday.
After a short Foreword, Acknowledgments section, and Introduction, the book is divided into three main parts. These consist of Professional Strategies, Personal Strategies, and Universal Concepts. Among these three categories are short chapters focusing on individual concepts. Each chapter is formatted the same way. Blair first explains why the concept counts and illustrates its importance. I found him to be right on with so much of what he wrote. Next comes a short call to action, which usually consisted of a few questions to ask yourself how the concept applies to your own life, and how you want to apply it more in the future. And finally, each chapter concluded with a Portrait of Excellence, which profiled a person or business and how they embraced the concept the chapter focused upon.Read more ›
Details are important. One stray line of code can wreck a computer program. One wrong drug dosage can kill a patient. One harsh comment can ruin a business partnership.
When you do the little things correctly, they add up to an excellent result.
The ideas in this book are divided into three areas: professional strategies, personal strategies, and universal concepts. So it can benefit your career and personal life.
Here are three takeaways I got:
1) Planning counts
A carefully drawn plan, executed correctly, is your ticket to success. Corollary: Your life cannot go according to plan if you have no plan.
The majority of people and businesses are unprepared for success, because they have not planned. Those who fail to plan are doomed to repeat yesterday's sub-par performances today. Instead, why not create history rather than repeat it?
Of course, your plan will change almost as soon as you implement it, but that's okay. It's the homework, research, and visualization you do while writing your plan tonight that prepares you to succeed tomorrow.
2) Vision counts
"You will never be greater than the vision that guides you," writes Blair. Vision is the ability to see what others don't (or won't). It spurs people and organization to achieve the improbable -- even the impossible. The clearer and more compelling your vision, the more power and confidence it gives you.
By contrast, a lack of vision saps the will and dampens achievement.Read more ›
