5.0 out of 5 stars Must-Have Book for Kids and Adults Alike!
A wonderful sense of humor can be found throughout this thoughtful, thorough compilation of everyone's favorite fairy tales. I would highly recommend this book as a must have for all families. It will help children become acquainted with all the wonderful fairy tales out there, and renew old "relationships" with the tales for adults. Buy this Book!

1.0 out of 5 stars Book of Horror
I don't think I've ever reviewed a book before, but this book was so awful that I felt compelled to get on here this evening and write my opinion of it. I think if you're looking for a 'book of horror' you might want to rate this book at 5 stars, but if you are looking for a 'children's' book, this is definitely not what you are looking for.

The stories are...

This is a fabulous book. It's full of fun and creative retellings of your favorite fairy tales as well as other more "obscure" classics that you'll really enjoy discovering!

1.0 out of 5 stars Book of Horror, October 9, 2010
I don't think I've ever reviewed a book before, but this book was so awful that I felt compelled to get on here this evening and write my opinion of it. I think if you're looking for a 'book of horror' you might want to rate this book at 5 stars, but if you are looking for a 'children's' book, this is definitely not what you are looking for.

The stories are violent and filled with awful endings. For example, there is the story of The Piped Piper of Hamelin. The story begins in it's usual way. The Piped Piper comes to the town and tells the Mayor that he will rid the town of rats for $1000. They agree to this and off he goes to get rid of the rats. However, once he has accomplished this, he returns to the Mayor, who won't pay him the agreed upon fee. The Piped Piper leaves in anger, only to come back the next morning playing his pipe again. But this time, all the children follow him out of the town and into a forest where they reach a dark cave. The children go in after the Piped Piper..."and when the last child had gone into the darkness, the door slowly shut...A great landslide came down the mountain blocking the entrance to the cave forever." So basically all the children died and everyone in the town learned their lesson. ACK!

Or the story of Henny-Penny who thinks the sky is falling. When all the animals meet the fox and follow him into his cave, the story goes..."First Turkey-lurkey went through the dark hole in the cave. He hadn't gone far when Foxy-woxy snapped off off TL's head and threw his body over his left shoulder. The GP went in and off went her head and GP was thrown beside TL. Then DD waddled down and FW snapped, and DD head was off and DD was thrown alongside DD." And on and on...

These are only two of the stories, but really almost every story is like this. I'm not sure what kind of author would label these kinds of stories - "100 Fun to Read Stories". Fun for who? Charles Manson? Ted Bundy? It didn't seem fun to me when it occurred to me that if I read these stories to my kids I'd have endless sleepless nights trying the soothe them from the inevitable nightmares!

Terrible book!
