5.0 out of 5 stars Practical and easy to read!, June 1, 2005
I purchased this book for my brother, who is about to become a new dad. This book was very easy to read with practical advice from both the pediatrician's standpoint, but more importantly, the advice of a father with real life circumstances and experiences. I highly recommend this book to all new fathers.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheesey book, but informative, September 21, 2009
I have read this book in short spurts since my wife first became pregnant five and a half months ago. The book is cheesy, elementary and slightly pandering, but in small doses, it has useful information. When your wife becomes pregnant, things are going to change, but not really for nine months. That's why reading this book for about five to ten minutes a day has been useful for thinking about things I might not otherwise think about without the previous experience to know (i.e having a baby). Things in the book include what to expect when you get to the hospital, best times to tell the boss, and advice that drinking & doing drugs is bad for you. Real insightful (yeah, right).

1.0 out of 5 stars Assume you are an idiot, then build from there, June 22, 2008
Wow, I just couldnt belive my eyes when I opened this book. Quote from first page (Second of the top ten things every father should do) "Dont deliberately try to screw up all of the jobs you are given to do, just so you wont be asked again. It might get you out of doing more work, but it might get you out of a relationship with your family." It just gets worse from there. The first chapter is a proposition on changing your whole life, considering that you have been nothing but a dirt bag husband from the start. The chapters after that have decently easy explations in the basics of raising a baby, but the content is probably easily found through a brief check on the internet or a call to a friend or family member who has had a child. Further, the information is so vague that the explanations lack any useful content or simple sketches that could help you understand. An example would be that the author bullet points lists of presumably important information and then expects you to do further footwork to learn on your own. Maybe, this book is useful to those who lack the skills necessary to actually read a book with content, but in that case those people probably wont read through a book in the first place. The M.D. who writes this book may have some extensive knowledge on being a pediatrician, but far lacks insight in how to construct, organize, and write a book as well as completely lacking the social skills necessary to deliver that information without offending the readers.
