Jeffery Donley (St. Cloud, FL) has six earned degrees including four masters and a Ph.D. While at Duke University, Dr. Donley made the first English translation of a German work of the Renaissance author Oecolampadius' 1525 Isaiah Commentary. I bought this book on the mistaken impression that it was the complement to "The Everything German Book." In fact, the practice book is not structured at all like the "Everything German Book." In fact, you will need a basic grasp of German grammar to use this book.

Although as a practice book it is okay, I feel it relies to heavily on "find the mistake" exercises. I would rather not see grammatical mistakes in print as it reinforces the mistakes in your brain.

Do not be fooled by the similar titles. "The Everything German Practice Book" is not related to the "Everything German Book." At best, it could serve as a followup text.

This book is awful. It was so bad, a native German speaker looked over my shoulder and remarked how awful it was. Need I say more?

I ordered this book for my girl friend to learn my native language German. It is completely useless for this purpose. It is basically a workbook having German words and phrases and you will be asked to translate them.

But the catch is that it doesn't give you any solutions or vocabulary. In order to have some use for this book you must have some detailed knowledge about the German vocabulary, but in this case the sentences are to easy in order to use it as a preparation for school tests etc.

My advise, buy something else. I will have to return it, too.
