A MUST HAVE BOOK!!,

Wow! What an extensive, down to earth book EVERYTHING getting pregnant! This author really knows the topic inside and out, and presents it to the reader in a very understandable format. I've only had it for a week, and couldn't put it down. If you are ever considering having a baby, read this first and find out what to do to get your body ready, and to know your body's signals.

My husband and I are starting to think about having kids so I thought this book would be a good place to start with a basic overview. It does do that but it didn't say anything different or insightful that I couldn't find for free online. (i.e. don't drink alcohol, no smoking, chemical hazards)
Most of this book(16 chapters) deals with infertility. This is something that I don't need so most of this book was not useful to me. I would pass on this book. There are definitely better books out there like, The Mother of All Pregnancy Books: The Ultimate Guide to Conception, Birth, and Everything In Between.

Not exactly what I expected it to be...,

The first half of this book is great for someone interested in learning what to expect before getting pregnant. It's easy to read and extremely informative. I enjoyed that part of it very much. Howevere, once you reach the center of the book the entire rest of the book is about infertility and ways you can get pregnant if either you or your spouse are found to have problems. I'm sure this book would become very helpful if that were to happen, but considering that I haven't even started trying to get pregnant...that part of the book did not interest me at all.

Silly and not all that useful.,

This was the second pregnancy related book I picked up. Not being actually pregnant yet, I wanted one that would talk about the preparation for pregnancy and babies, but this book was mostly about infertility save a couple of chapters.
This would be fine, for this kind of information would certainly be valuable to some, however the style in which it was written was a little frustrating and not as objective as I would have expected. I felt it was written more for a baby-crazy nineteen year old than for someone like me (30s, not baby-crazy, just rationally thinking out this possible next step). For example the suggestion that "nothing is more disappointing than calling someone to share your good news, only to find out that he or she already knows" - I can think of a lot more things within the context of pregnancy and without that are more disappointing than that, but this book is full of this silliness. It also wastes a lot of space with general common sense; the most egregious example being a note that having anal sex will not result in pregnancy - perhaps some people haven't figured this out but I'm not sure those people are actually what one would describe as "readers". It also seemed a little outdated and conservative in parts - not necessarily using the latest studies and research, but relying on age old advice that one would just find on the internet. When it did reference studies, it was done in a vague, unhelpful manner ("Only 25% of healthy couples will conceive during the first few months of timing and trying" - how many months is a few? 2? 6?). I much preferred the first book I read, The Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy. I'm sorry I wasted an afternoon reading this one.

The first 1/3 of the book was helpful as far as what to expect and the changes your body will go through while pregnant. The last 2/3 of the book was all about infertility...not what I expected. This is a great book if you and your partner are having problems conceiving but otherwise, not a good buy.

Where to Begin...,
This review is from: The Everything Getting Pregnant Book: Professional, Reassuring Advice to Help You Conceive (Everything (Parenting)) (Paperback)
This is the book for you if you want to be pregnant or you think you might want to be pregnant some day. The author does a great job of describing practical advice for getting pregnant in a very easy to read fashion. After reading this book I wish I hadn't wasted time and money reading other hard-to-understand, incomplete books. If you are thinking about pregnancy you owe it to yourself to have this book in your hands.
