I've read a number of "paranormal investigating" how-to books, but this is the one I'm most impressed with. First, it covers topics the other guides don't: a history of hauntings through the ages, following scientific protocols and team member accountability, and mapping power sources and natural anomalies (and that's just the beginning--I've learned more from this book than any of the others I've read). Second, each topic is covered in depth, and in many cases it takes the reader through a step-by-step how to. Third, it's well written and concise.

This book is not only a wonderful primer for beginners, but a good resource to have for intermediates as well as those who are seasoned: everything is easily found using the index, so it's a great reference guide. In addition, those who aren't paranormal investigators (such as writers and journalists) who need to research the topic in order to sound knowledgeable about what they're writing will also find this invaluable.

If you're looking for a well-researched book that covers every topic in paranormal investigating, get this one. You won't be disappointed.

I have only been on a few ghost hunts with professional investigators, but never on my own. So I decided, from what I had experienced, that I wanted to explore paranormal investigation, ghost hunting in particular, in more depth. I had heard a lot of good things about Ms. Ellis' book, so I bought it and devoured it. Not only was it full of extremely helpful information, but was fun to read. I had some issues with how expensive this "hobby" might get, but after coming to the logical result that to do anything well you must have the proper tools, I purchased the equipment suggested by this book. I can't say enough about this book for a semi-amateur ghost hunter like myself. What a find! I highly recommend this book. Kudos to the author.

I have no clue what "Marve" read. For that matter, its obvious Marve doesn't know what Marve read! Too bad, because this extremely well written book offers the novice researcher everything he or she needs to know to make a decision as to whether paranormal investigation is for them. This field requires the participant to open their closed mind, not to slam the door and lock it.

THE EVERYTHING GHOST HUNTING BOOK delivers what the title promises and then some. It is highly entertaining, but at the same time its also a painstakingly researched factual guide to all aspects of paranormal research and investigation. Unlike many "guides" before it, it provides the rarely seen diverse insights of actual investigator's working in this field.

Buy this book, you will not be disappointed!

I've read several books on the topic of Ghost Hunting and/or Paranormal Investigation. Whilst this is not the best book on the topic, I think it is an awesome introductory text for those who wish to learn more about the topic. If you're looking for a book on Ghost Hunting, there is a good chance that you're interest in the topic has been created or at least spiked by ghost hunting television shows such as Ghost Hunters, Paranormal State and Ghost Adventures. I think it's a safe bet to say that Melissa Martin Ellis is a Ghost Hunters fan as she tends to reference TAPS (aka, Ghost Hunters) regularly throughout the book. At the same time, I consider her credibility to be satisfactory when it comes to the subject of Ghost Hunting given that she is a member of the Rhode Island Paranormal Research Group.

The format of this book is a little "dumbed down", but it makes for short, palatable sections of text that are well written and relatively thorough. However, she does tend to repeat herself regularly, but that's not always a bad thing, especially at the introductory level. There are also some topics covered that weren't of much interest to me (such as psychics), but for the most part they were short and painless. In my opinion, this book is a good "introductory" text on the subject of Ghost Hunting and/or Paranormal Investigation. Not only does it discuss the basic entry-level equipment and how to use it, but it covers most areas pertaining to the topic of running a Paranormal Investigation Group. This includes preparing for an investigation, covering your group from a legal standpoint, analyzing and revealing evidence and managing records/data. Like I said, she tends to repeat herself regularly, but it's not such a bad thing at the introductory level.

The most important thing to take into account with this book is that it essentially follows the TAPS methodology of paranormal investigation. There is a whole other scientific realm of paranormal investigation that is not covered in this book, nor is it covered on any of the mainstream TV shows such as "Ghost Hunters" because, quite frankly, it doesn't make for entertaining television and is far too scientifically and technically advanced for the average viewer to be able to easily digest. And let's face it, most "paranormal investigators" out there aren't really doing anything that anyone else couldn't do with a digital recorder and an EMF detector. Chances are TAPS do a whole lot more than what is shown on television, but they keep it off the air for the sake of entertainment, and there is nothing wrong with that. In summary, this book is highly recommended as an introductory text to the topic of Ghost Hunting and/or Paranormal Investigation, but I encourage you to read "Paranormal Technology: Understanding the Science of Ghost Hunting" by David M. Rountree if you truly want to take your knowledge to the next level.

Great book. Has a lot of good information. Used this book to get my beginner equipment

The book is very factual with most of the information that the author has presented. Would recommend any Ghost Hunter to read this book for some tips on like how to dress, tools, etc.

I alreadey know quite a bit about the paranormal investigation field. But this book enlightened me to many other sources for knowledge, and the history of different investigative techniques. Very well worth more than I paid for it! 'Love it'

As someone who is new to the world of paranormal investigation, this book helped me to learn about everything from the history of hauntings, to the equipment used, to conducting an investigation. It really covers "EVERYTHING GHOST HUNTING"! I'm so glad I got this book!! I highly recommend it to anyone who has never done an investigation, whether you'll be a serious hunter, or a hobbyist.

I am so glad that this book was recomended with another purchase. It explaines past and current events and answered a lot of questions, that were not on line. I do not plan to go out and ghost hunt, but this geographic area in Florida in which I live, has a violent past going back hundreds of years. Now I am more comfortable when an event happens or when some one around me takes a picture and has an item in the back ground that wasn't planned on. Read the Book! jt :)

Our paranormal group is making this required reading. This book is packed if info from equipment needed and how to conduct a proper investigation.
