Product Description

Packed with 300 tasty, healthy recipes, The Everything Glycemic Index Cookbook is designed to accommodate those watching their blood sugar levels. The glycemic index is a measure of how foods affect blood glucose levels, which in turn affects the rate of digestion. It's especially useful for those watching their weight, and those with diabetes who need to regulate their sugar intake. Using the nutritional information included with each recipe, readers can determine the amount of fat, carbs, calories, and protein in each serving, in addition to the glycemic load (the overall rating of ingredients on the glycemic index).
Features recipes for:
  • Family dinners
  • Salads and soups
  • Vegetarian dishes
  • Healthy snacks
The Everything Glycemic Index Cookbook is a handy tool for coordinating meals with dietary needs, creating a healthy diet, and achieving weight loss-not to mention good eating!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a book I'll be using frequently, May 16, 2007
This review is from: The Everything Glycemic Index Cookbook: 300 Appetizing Recipes to Keep Your Weight Down And Your Energy Up! (Everything: Cooking) (Paperback)
A lot of the recipes tend to include ingredients that are not readily available -- many cookbooks will suggest more common substitutes, but this one doesn't. Many recipes take far more time than I care to spend on preparation for everyday meals. I found only a handful of the recipes to be appealing.

Also, if you don't own (or care to own) a food processor, this book isn't for you -- nearly every recipe involves one in some way.

Finally, the way the book itself is laid out makes the recipes difficult to follow while cooking.

1.0 out of 5 stars So inadequate I sent it back - don't waste your money, April 18, 2007

I've been following Rick Gallop's fantastic books "The g.i. Diet" and "Living the g.i. Diet" and was looking for a good gi cookbook. I picked this one and, after a thorough review, was VERY disappointed - so much so that I returned it and I've never returned a book in my life. I recently received "The Low GI Diet Cookbook" by Brand-Miller, Foster-Powell and McMillan-Price and it is an outstanding high-quality book full of gorgeous photos and recipes that I'll be using everyday!!!! It covers everything you need to know about the diet and thensome. This is truly a 5* book. Also purchased "The Good Carb Cookbook" by Woodruff and it's nice; but not great. Printed on EXTREMELY cheap quality paper which had torn pages when received - pity more care wasn't taken in the production of this book. No photos at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to follow recipes, January 11, 2007
This review is from: The Everything Glycemic Index Cookbook: 300 Appetizing Recipes to Keep Your Weight Down And Your Energy Up! (Everything: Cooking) (Paperback)
I found the recipes easy to follow. The fact that they book not only rated each meal on the glycemic index but also included how much fat, calories, sodium, were included in that meal was awesome.

The downside to this book was that many recipes had large amounts of fat in them. My advice is to make sure you're cooking not only a low glycemic meal but also a meal that is low fat!

It's a good book for general information. However, in the USA the Index is not on food products, but it should be!

Recipes are set up weird. I really didn't care for this book. Lots of filler, it seemed.
