Not a book I'll be using frequently,
This review is from: The Everything Glycemic Index Cookbook: 300 Appetizing Recipes to Keep Your Weight Down And Your Energy Up! (Everything (Cooking)) (Paperback)
A lot of the recipes tend to include ingredients that are not readily available -- many cookbooks will suggest more common substitutes, but this one doesn't. Many recipes take far more time than I care to spend on preparation for everyday meals. I found only a handful of the recipes to be appealing.
Also, if you don't own (or care to own) a food processor, this book isn't for you -- nearly every recipe involves one in some way. Finally, the way the book itself is laid out makes the recipes difficult to follow while cooking.

I've been following Rick Gallop's fantastic books "The g.i. Diet" and "Living the g.i. Diet" and was looking for a good gi cookbook. I picked this one and, after a thorough review, was VERY disappointed - so much so that I returned it and I've never returned a book in my life. I recently received "The Low GI Diet Cookbook" by Brand-Miller, Foster-Powell and McMillan-Price and it is an outstanding high-quality book full of gorgeous photos and recipes that I'll be using everyday!!!! It covers everything you need to know about the diet and thensome. This is truly a 5* book. Also purchased "The Good Carb Cookbook" by Woodruff and it's nice; but not great. Printed on EXTREMELY cheap quality paper which had torn pages when received - pity more care wasn't taken in the production of this book. No photos at all.

Easy to follow recipes,
This review is from: The Everything Glycemic Index Cookbook: 300 Appetizing Recipes to Keep Your Weight Down And Your Energy Up! (Everything (Cooking)) (Paperback)
I found the recipes easy to follow. The fact that they book not only rated each meal on the glycemic index but also included how much fat, calories, sodium, were included in that meal was awesome.
The downside to this book was that many recipes had large amounts of fat in them. My advice is to make sure you're cooking not only a low glycemic meal but also a meal that is low fat!

Everything I like to eat is NOT in this cookbook--well, actually it is, but in the "best you limit what you eat of this" column.
Maar has compiled over 300 recipes that teach you how to mix the high Glycemic Index (GI) and high-carbohydrate food with low to create a style of eating that will satisfy you and help control the health conditions: diabetes, hypoglycemia, heart conditions or overweight. A healthy future is easier if you are food savvy. Maar covers the entire day from breakfast to dinner, including snacks and dessert. Each recipe shows the calories, GI, carbs, protein and fat content--a nice feature in today's health-conscious eating world. Eating right can provide long-lasting energy through the day, Maar explains. This is the main point I am taking from the book, and it's important with all the food we eat that has empty calories and gives us an energy boost that's soon depleted. I liked the baked sweet potato stick recipe (substitute for the "bad" French fries) as it sounds fabulous and easy to make. Sweet potatoes are not just for Thanksgiving anymore. The salmon and broccoli stir-fry sounds good for dinner tonight (or as soon as I go grocery shopping). Armchair Interviews says: If any of the health conditions listed above may be or might become part of your life, these recipes can help. Understanding the GI will make a difference to your health.

I'm very impressed with this book. The recipes are all very simple to follow, and contain a reasonable amount of ingredients (no 20-ingredient, 5 hour preparation time dishes here!), all available at any grocery store, no specialty-markets required. Everything I've tested thus far has been really tasty - even my kids will eat it! I recommend this cookbook for anyone wanting to eat healthier, whether they are concerned about their glycemic index or not. It's just good food.

Getting on top of insulin resistance and weight,

What I liked about this book was that it provides recipes with measures for calories, GI, Carbs, Protein & Fat - so you can pick what you need for whatever diet, or stage of diet, you are on. At the front of the book, everything you need to know about insulin resistance and the glycemic index is set out in simple terms. No other book is really necessary!

I really like the recipes in this book. There are a lot of books out there with exotic stuff in them, but this is the kind of cookbook anyone can use. The recipes are outstanding, and easy to make!
Definitely a good buy!

Too Good to be a "Diet" Cookbook,

Have only had the book a couple of weeks but have already used a dozen recipes. Food has great flavor and recipes are easy, most can be quickly prepared with a little planning. My husband is still trying to figure out how we're "dieting" when the food is so good and he isn't going hungry!

I was very disappointed in this cookbook. A lot of the recipes have hard to find ingredients as well as use a lot of ingredients that are not allowed in phase one of the GI diet. I have yet to cook anything out of the book!

I was really reluctant to BUY a cookbook because I get most of my recipes for free online. I was glad I picked this one up though-- the variety is great, and there are TONS of things that even a super picky eater like me is excited to try out. The nutritional information included on each recipe is very handy, and they make it easy to find the GI rating (low, moderate, high) with a single glance.
