About the Author

Drew Beechum (Valley Village, CA) has been brewing for almost a decade and has won numerous medals for his beer. He was the president of the Maltose Falcons, America?s oldest homebrewing society, for four years?longer than anyone else. Mr. Beechum also writes a monthly column for BeerAdvocate, the magazine on homebrewing and the culture surrounding it. He also writes several feature articles per year for Zymurgy, the journal of the American Homebrewers Association.

I enjoyed reading this book. It has some good recipes in it. I have read John Palmer's How to Brew book and if I could only could purchase one book I would get that one. Palmer's book had some more details that you may or may not be interested in. I enjoyed this book more than The Complete Joy of Homebrewing Third Edition because it didn't have "Relax, don't worry, have a homebrew" repeated over and over again. The book did give me some other ideas and I think I will make a fermentation chiller sometime (plans not in book but son of fermentation chiller and others available on the internet). Will be making the bourbon vanilla imperial porter next week and then the evil twin. Not at all disappointed in purchasing this book.

Excellent recipes, a little vague in terms of sparging process but otherwise a good introduction to brewing beer. Pre-brewing checklists, clear explanations without too much math or science.

Good book for the brewer wanting to know about the different kinds/styles of beer. Not overly informative about how to brew each style, but gives several receipts for each.
