very nice, traditional jazz CD,

This CD is a joy to listen to. I had not heard Elias before purchasing this CD. She has created a CD filled with traditional jazz sound and nicely showcasing her exceptional abilities on the piano. Although she does not exhibit a strong singing voice, the several songs on which she sings will not disappoint.

Eliane Swings to Bop and Broadway,
By

Eliane often offers a mixture of musical genres on her CDs, but here she does not unless one wants to differentiate bebop jazz from broadway jazz/popular. In any event, this is one of her most cohesive CDs. Eliane had previously recorded many tracks of this genre, but never an entire CD full. She plays music from American masters like Dizzie Gillespie, Charlie Mingus, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and Cole Porter (who gets two entries, including the title cut). Berlin's contribution is his familiar "They Say [that Falling in Love Is] Wonderful."Eliane operates with two different bass and drum teams, but there are no other musicians. She does some brief vocals on four tracks, and the rest are instrumental: The thing is the music. She does not sing on her two good originals: "Bowing to Bud" (lively) and "That's All It Was" (slow and pretty). My favorite song is Mingus' "Nostalgia in Times Square," with its sexy motif. This genre is not what I look for first when I seek out her music, but I appreciate her consistently great piano work in performing the numbers here. Always very dexterous and fluid, and one who does great improvisations, she entirely succeeds with the jazzy texture. When things move to soft and pretty, her piano always shines. She is more known for her Brazilian and modern jazz/pop work, but here she shows she can swing. This CD will be very enjoyable to fans of the genre.

Elias' pianistic abilities and imagination make up for the lack of a great singing voice. Not my favorite of her CD's, but if you are a fan you won't regret owning this one.

I love this album very very much; it's a pure jazz album; one of the best Eliane has made to date.

I heard a track on the radio and loved it, came to amazon and bought a copy. The trio plays beautifully together. I'll buy more of her albums!
