Affirming story of hope for those who live with OCD,
By A Customer
This review is from: Everything In Its Place: My Trials and Triumphs with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (Hardcover)
As the parent of a child with OCD, I found Marc Summers' book to be an incredibly helpful one. The book gives solid information about this disorder and also tells Marc's personal story of his journey from diagnosis to recovery. My son watched "Double Dare" religiously. Seeing one of his idols struggling with the same disorder that he does, has helped Jake continue to win his battle as well. A good read for families and those who work with people with ocd. This is one book that helps de-stigmatize a mental illness. Bravo!

Beautiful Story...,

This review is from: Everything In Its Place: My Trials and Triumphs with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (Hardcover)
Believe it or not, I really felt differently about this book after reading it.I though this was a book about OCD. But after reading it, I found out it's really a book about the trials and triumphs of life...period, with or without OCD. It really was a touching tale about how one can never be sure what to expect in life and how one goes about dealing with the upside and downside of the world. I would recommend to anyone with or without this terrible disorder. For Double Dare fans, it is sad to note, that Summers doesn't talk very much about his days at Double Dare, not even dedicating a chaper to what was really his big break. However, the story is nevertheless thoughtful and touching. I wish Marc Summers the best. And hopefully, he will once again return to television, where he really belongs.

Having a son, age 11, who suffers from OCD and who is a fan of Marc Summers, I thought this would be a great book for both of us to read and we were not disappointed. While my son's OCD is not quite as severe as Marc's, we definitely could relate to so many things that he shared. It made my son feel better to know that he was not alone and to even find some humor in all of it. I think by writing this book, Marc Summers has touched the lives many in a very positive way.

Not to be bias because I've known him since our Grahm Jr. College daZe together, but Marc's courage and kindness shines with the publication of this book.As a combo of a medical reference and bio, this book will undoubtably do so much good for those who suffer from OCD because it is, at once, entertaining and informative. I consider myself very fortunate that I have been blessed by his friendship and inspired by his accomplishments in the industry we share. This book reveals the definitive definition of a "good man" in the truest sense. BTW, just for the record. I'm not the Mike that was his messy roomate he refers to on Page 86. ;-)

This is a great book. Marc Summers is one of the best gameshow hosts in the history of television. It is nice that he hasn't been "type-casted" and that he is and was able to do various hosting duties. The book does talk about his OCD and his career. Very interesting. I hope he returns to televsion, hopefully hosting Double Dare 2000. I miss his great laugh. You'll learn a lot from reading this book.

This book though it was a little bland it was very educational. I liked it because I too have OCD and it was nice to read about someone who has made so much with their life go through some of the same stuff. Although his OCD is on a much greater scale then my own it was something I could relate to. I would recomend this book to not only those with OCD, but those who don't have it. It really gives you a better understanding what OCD really is.

The best book on OCD I've ever read,
This review is from: Everything in Its Place: My Trials and Triumphs with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (Paperback)
I've been reading through all books I can find about OCD, as I have recently been diagnosed with this disorder. I thought this one would be lightweight, full of stories about Double Dare and written in a comic style. Was I wrong! Summers is so honest about his life and his OCD. He included information about the disorder that I have never read elsewhere, even in books that are written to be overall medical guides. I also very much enjoyed how honest he was writing about other aspects of his life, including show biz and his family life. He sounds like a fine person that I would love to get to talk to someday. It was especially interesting for me to read how long it took him to seek treatment, even after he realized what he had, as I have been through that myself. I want to thank him for writing this book and for having so much courage in sharing his story. It was his appearance on Oprah that first made me sure I did have OCD, although like him, I did nothing about it for quite a while. I had forgotten (or blocked out) that I ever saw him on the show until I read this book! A real must read for anyone interested in OCD.

Excellent Must Read!!!,

First, I must say, this book had me completly in awe. I totally HATE to read. I can not by a single book without going from page 2 and skipping to the last few pages to see how it ends. But Marc Summers book is GREAT! I read it from the VERY first page to the last, without skipping a word. I found his story about his trials and triumphs with OCD to be interesting and very informative. I am 24, and I grew up watching Double Dare, and never would have guessed that he had this disorder. I personally have never been affected with OCD, nor have I have never known anyone to be afflicited with the disease. I knew very little about it, until I read this book. I recommend this if you are even a little bit curious about OCD. It is very well written and I felt like Marc was right here telling me his story. I wish Marc and his family all the best things in life.

The hardest thing he ever did. . .,

This review is from: Everything In Its Place: My Trials and Triumphs with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (Hardcover)
I knew Marc Summers when he was a skinny, bright-eyed, ambitious student at Grahm Junior College in Boston. Driven to succeed in television or radio even then, Marc knew what he wanted and knew what he had to do to achieve it. The Marc I knew was a funny, sweet, smart guy who cracked jokes with lightning quickness and opened doors for women -- a gentleman. I never knew he had OCD until his book was published. If you read this amazingly courageous self-expose of Marc's struggles with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, you'll learn exactly what causes this tortuous disorder and recognize that you or your loved ones who have the symptoms are not crazy, and that help is just a phone call away. A must-read for ODC sufferers, their families, spouses, children and especially for their friends. |
