Terrific resource,

This review is from: The Everything Kids' Witches and Wizards Book: Bewitch Your Friends, Bedazzle Your Parents, and Befuddleyour Enemies! (Paperback)
What a cleverly done book. I picked it up while shopping with a friend and her 4 yr old. I was watching him play in the kids' area so I wanted to be occupied. I never put this back on the shelf. I expected to pick it up and laugh because I am a witch.Boy was I wrong and I am very glad that I was. L.T. Samuels should be commended for not trying to convert anyone with these simple spells. Every spell is designed to encourage the child to be imaginative and inventive. I was particularly taken with the Spell to Cheer Someone Up. Of course, chocolate-dipped strawberries will make me happy everytime. I do not have kids, but my friends with kids will be hounded to buy this one. You could buy this for any child who wants to dream and be a kid for as long as possible. It says for ages 7-12, but I think you could use some of these spells for younger ones with adult supervision. A must-have on my bookshelf!

The Everything Kids' Witches and Wizards Book,

A most practical introduction to the magickal world, whether you believe in "magick" or not. This book touches on traditional magick, including the symbolism of colors, foods, herbs, or animals. But it has a firm foundation, that the real magic in life is the feelings and intentions that are behind the symbols. I was impressed that the way to help others feel good does not just involve those wonderful chocolate covered strawberries (which is a delightful "potion" in itself!) but in listening to friends when they need an ear. And the best of spells to pass a test, which involves visualizing your success, is enhanced greatly by studying. :-) The real magic is the love and dedication we put forth in life. This book conveys that concept well at a level that children can understand.

The Everything Kids' Witches and Wizards Book is unobjectionable in almost every way, and my group of Spiral Scouts (a new scouting program for kids in Earth-centered religions) enjoyed some of the crafts in it that we had happened to duplicate prior to the book's arrival in my stack of leader resources. I'm sure they'll enjoy doing some more of these activities over the next few months. I especially liked the recipies for theme-related snack foods in each chapter. The tone is respectful both of magic and psychic powers and of the ecology, without mentioniong any god or gods whatsoever. That's part of what I mean by "unobjectionable"; all but the most fundamentalist parents or clergy will find little here to crusade against. The major ingredients for the most "serious" exercises are imagination and concentration. The less serious ones use common household or craft-store materials. And the kids are invited to think about what they're doing. Though the book doesn't take the next logical step of asking the kids to think about WHY they want to "cast a spell", that's an easy place for the parent or other adult to intervene.

I bought this for my 7 year old grandaughter. There are so FEW books out there for children and grandchildren of pagans, that I thought I'd give it a try. What a wonderful book! Not only are there recipes, games, and magic, but this book has a wonderful approach to living with our earth. Buy it...you will not be disappointed!

it is fun to make the activities but when it got to the potions and spells it was pretty obvios they knew they wouldnt work.like the one to bring a friend back,u make strawberry cookies for ur friend and say a spell.but at the end it spys to talk to them and tell them ur problem.so basically make something nice for them then tell them whats bothering u.so i dont recomend it for children who can tell the difference, like myself.
