Please, do yourself a favor & buy a *serious* grammar book if you really want to learn the language -- I've been studying it off and on for years & this was a gift, I was glad I hadn't actually spent money on it...There really are no two ways about it while learning can be fun, it just can't be this superficial...My suggestion: try the Prego series...

Thank goodness I was just reviewing my knowledge of basic Italian! This book contains many interesting sidebars and fun crossword puzzles as well as interesting contemporary social and historical information but there are so many grammar errors (typos and poor, if any, editing) that I must caution any beginner against using it.

Overall, I was disappointed by this book. The reason I bought it was the layout--it seemed clear and concise and a good review to refresh on the Italian I already know. I do find it full of good summary tables, vocabulary lists and verbs. But there are so many typos and errors! Really, there are mistakes in the verb conjugations and in the answers in the appendix. Unforgivable.

If you've been studying Italian at all it won't take you too long to start doubting this book. Full of silly mistakes that really undermine what could've been a good idea...Back to the real books!!

The contents of this book is not bad. But, even though I know only a little Italian, I was able to spot many errors in grammar explanations and in spelling. Definitely enough to give you wrong information if this is your only source for learning Italian.

Yes, I did learn Italian with this book. Of course, not ONLY with this book but it helped me a lot. This has a simple approach where I can get what it teaches and remember them easily. Why 4 star rating? I wantedto actually give like 3,5 stars because of the volume of errors inside but all the same, the errors did not stop me from reading the book, learning it and doing the exercises.

I read the book fromend to end twice and at the same time, I still make it as my reference text whenever I get caught with a question.

My Italian may not be perfect, but for someone who did not have any formal Italian education, I am satisfied of this book's help and my own zeal to learn.

Learning does not rely in the book alone, it has your own factor! Your own factor is much stronger than the book factor. I got lucky to havelived in Italy for 8 months, worked with Italian colleagues and live with an Italian. These factors are much stronger than the book factor but as I said, I also read and really learned the book closely.

In fact, this book is the reason why I bought the everything books also in French, German and Spanish!

Good luck with buying this book. If you find something does not seem right, double check as this book has quite a good amount of mistakes inside.
