Randy Crawford is perhaps the most overlooked singer in music. Though she has been recording for over twenty years, her music is largely unknown to most people. This album, one of her earlier works, is evidence of her ability to take any type of song and make it her own. She entices with a sultry "piano bar" version of the title track and a rhythmic cover of The Beatles' "Don't Let Me Down." Her version of the oft-covered "I've Never Been To Me" offers a legitimacy never before afforded the song. A lively, upbeat version of Keith Carradine's "I'm Easy," complete with harmonica, is guaranteed to put a smile on the face of any listener. Crawford's voice is perhaps at its best on a gem called "As Soon As I Touched Him"; the song itself is a cool blend of R & B and gospel. Crawford even transforms the extremely-campy "I Let You Walk Away" into a powerful pop/soul ballad. It's a shame that Warner Bros. does not see fit to offer Crawford's catalogue in th U.S. Luckily, many of her earlier releases are available in Germany and Japan. An artist of such great talent deserves more recognition. For those curious about the music of the great Randy Crawford, this selection is a good place to start.

Flawless,

I first discovered Randy in 1976 after hearing her do a cover of Brook Benton's Endlessly.... Her voice knocked me out. I bought the vinyl versions of both "Everything Must Change" and "Raw Silk" as soon as the record store opened. Imagine my excitement in finding the recording available on compact disc. This album is a close to perfection as an artist can get. There is not a filler song on this album. Each song can stand alone with both emotion and flawless perfection. You feel her emotions in each song. The woman is just flat out talented. The tunes are always refreshing no matter how many times you listen. Randy's voice is unique and superb. After decades of recording she just keeps getting better and better. If you have not experienced Ms Randy Crawford. do yourself a favor and give her a try. I promise you will not disappointed.

Randy Crawford is one of those artists who has been around a LOONNNGGG time and never gotten the recognition she deserves. This debut is so beautiful that you can listen endlessly. The Crusaders provide the back-up (except for the live tunes)- need I say more. This was BEFORE "Street Life". Her vocals and interpretation are so understated, because she CAN BELT IT OUT, that she just draws you in. Her "Gonna Give Lovin'A Try" is from her first recordings with Canonball Adderly "Big Man" and is so dripped in emotion that you want to give it a try also! "Her career has lasted and this album shows that when I bought it then, I made a great choice. She is one of my all time favorites and I buy EVERYTHING she releases without doubt of quality.
