5.0 out of 5 stars I loved it.
I bought this album because I knew there was a song from The Thomas Crowne Affair on it, and I couldn't think of any of those songs that I wouldn't like. I really had no idea what I was getting, and DID I LUCK OUT!! The first time I listened to the album, I must have sat through the first 20 minutes with an incredulous grin on my face, it was that well done and that...

2.0 out of 5 stars Afro EZ listening
Music to put you to sleep. No lyric translations, so emotional impact of song's meaning is lost.

I bought this album because I knew there was a song from The Thomas Crowne Affair on it, and I couldn't think of any of those songs that I wouldn't like. I really had no idea what I was getting, and DID I LUCK OUT!! The first time I listened to the album, I must have sat through the first 20 minutes with an incredulous grin on my face, it was that well done and that much fun.

It is a polished recording with great sound, interesting songs, and great percussion. If you like world music of any kind, it is hard for me to imagine you won't feel the same way I do about this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fuses his African roots with a modern studio-enhanced pop, September 1, 2004
This review is from: Everything Is Never Quite Enough (Audio CD)
Many folk-rooted artists yearn for international success, and many struggle with the urges to modernize versus being true to their roots: Wasis Diop is one of the few to succeed at fusing his African roots with a modern studio-enhanced pop sound.
He has succeeded so well that most people reading this review will already have heard some of these songs on the radio: this is a 'greatest hits' album and public, college and independent radio have all gotten hip to Wasis Diop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, November 3, 2011

I bought his album "Toxu" (1998) and fell so much in love with his music that I had to buy more albums. This is my second and I love it even more than "Toxu". Most lyrics I don't understand since it is in Wolof, but it doesn't matter. The music and the voice are enough in itself. I play it over and over and I can't get enough, it fills my body and heart with such a good feeling. Love it and recommend it heartily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Every song a winner, October 4, 2009
How often do you buy an album where every single song is a winner? Where you never get tired of listening and wish there were more? This is one of those albums. Wassis Diop is one of the most underrated and under appreciated musicians on the planet. I'm glad to see his stuff is starting to come available. A few years ago I tried to find his albums and couldn't - even tried to order them from Africa - the shipping was absurd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Get Enough of Wasis, December 20, 2007
This review is from: Everything Is Never Quite Enough (Audio CD)
I've owned this CD for about 1 yr and it is played over and over and over. There is not one single cut that isn't wonderful. I consider this to be easy listening music, which is not what I generally listen to. If you are someone who likes "easy listening" this CD is for you. It's the best of it's class and I wish Wasis would get busy and create more fabulous sounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Carried Away, February 17, 2007
This review is from: Everything Is Never Quite Enough (Audio CD)
The more I listen to this CD, the more amazed at the talented musicians of Africa. Wasis Diop is first on my list. It deserved a Grammy. Every cut is masterful and transports me to the soul of the world, Africa.
