    More About the Author

Kathy Quan RN BSN PHN has been a nurse for over thirty years. After a few short years of hospital nursing, she moved to home health care where she could truly spend time with her patients and provide quality care and education to the patients and their families and caregivers.

Eventually, she transitioned into nurse management where she could mentor nurses new to home health care and work with student nurses on their rotation through home health, hoping to encourage them to one day become home health nurses as well.

Kathy has always loved to write and began to combine this with her nursing career as she wrote patient education materials and nurse education materials. She broadened this horizon when she became the Guide to Nursing at About.com in 2004. She was the last Guide to Nursing when About.com combined the nursing site into a Health Careers site in 2007. She has moved that content to her own blog and website. TheNursingSite.com and TheNursingSiteBlog.

She was recruited by Adams Media in 2005 to write her first book, The Everything New Nurse Book, which was published in March 2006. It has been so successful that in 2009, Adams Media re-purposed it into 150 Tips and Tricks for New Nurses. In 2007, The Everything Guide to Careers in Health Care was published.

In 2008, Kathy wrote The Everything Guide to Caring for Aging Parents from her vast experience in the twenty-five plus years as a home health nurse as well as her own life experiences in caring for ill and aging parents and in-laws. It was published in February, 2009. She is now writing a blog about caring for aging parents: www.AboutAgingParents.com

Kathy lives in southern California with her husband Tim, and a menagerie of cats and dogs. They have three terrific adult children. She regularly contributes to several websites and blogs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book for new nurses, October 22, 2010
This review is from: The Everything New Nurse Book: Gain Confidence, Manage Your Schedule, And Deal With the Unexpected (Everything (School & Careers)) (Paperback)
If you are a new nurse, having graduated in the last year or so, OR if you're in your last semester of nursing schhol, I highly recommend this book for you. I've been a registered nurse for the last 15 years, and there is not one person in my nursing class who wouldn't have benefitted from reading this book.
It isn't for everybody...nurses and maybe some family members of nurses. If you have a new or graduating nurse in your family, this book makes an excellent gift.

I am a preceptor at a large hospital and I give this book to all the nurses I train. It is great, to the point, and everyone loves it. The book would also be a great graduation present to nursing students because school world is so different from a real nurses working world. The book is a great bridge of those two.
