3.0 out of 5 stars The Softer Side of Organization, July 14, 2010
This review is from: Everything Organize Your Home Book: Eliminate clutter, set up your home office, and utilize space in your home (Everything (Home Improvement)) (Paperback)
There are some good ideas in Everything Organize Your Home Book: Eliminate clutter, set up your home office, and utilize space in your home (Everything Series). You just have to wade through a lot of clutter to get there.

For me, the most useful chapter was on the home office. It wasn't great, but it reminded me about some of the stuff I need to be doing. One thing I liked was the idea of creating activity hubs, and assigning "homes" to items associated with different jobs. It makes sense for people like me, who do different types of work. The idea has the potential to really help me out, but unfortunately, I cannot take full advantage of it yet, because I am in a tiny apartment. The author says the idea came from Julie Morgenstern, so it got me wondering, why not read Julie Morgenstern?

Julie Morgenstern is an organizational guru, and she has written Organizing from the Inside Out, Second Edition: The Foolproof System For Organizing Your Home, Your Office and Your Life, among others. I have only read part of it (still not sure whether to buy it or just keep reading it in the bookstore), but it has already helped immensely. There is a stark contrast between her book (no-nonsense, full of ideas) and this one.

SUMMARY
------------------------
In my opinion, this book is OK, especially for people who prefer a more psychological approach (why we are cluttered, how to approach the issue spiritually, when to go easy on yourself, etc.). But, if you are like me and want practical, effective, and more aggressive advice, you may want to try Morgenstern instead.
