Everything About Piano,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Everything Piano Book with CD: From popular songs to classical music - learn to play in no time (Everything (Music)) (Paperback)
Excellent material!! Very informative, from suggestions on which kind of piano best for you, to all you need to know to get started in making your own music on the piano. There is even a chapter on playing by ear. At the end of the book, no need to stop your learning because there is information given for anyone to go further, if desired. All of this plus a professional CD that gives examples of the exercises in the book. I'm so glad I purchased this book and plan to purchase more for others I know who are learning piano.

When it says "Everything", it really is EVERYTHING that you need to know about a piano. The book is especially helpful even to pick out a piano, which I wish I had when I was purchasing my own piano. The book is well written and very easy to follow. I loved the E-Facts which are educational tid-bits that were very interesting -- I learned lots of things that I didn't already know and I loved leafing through the book just to read them.
As far as playing, this is a great book for someone just getting started. For the small price of the book, you save a lot of money in music lessons. I have two kids currently taking piano lessons and the cost of the lessons are a lot compared to what you can cover in one lesson. This book enables a beginner to get through a lot of the basics (very cost effective) and get familiar with the finger movements before embarking on paying for lessons. The writer did a great job with the variety of music and songs, going over the different techniques and cords, how to use the right and left hand, etc. The CD is really a nice added benefit so that you know what each thing is supposed to sound like. Plus, it's an enticement to give kids an incentive to play! I have a 12 year old who has been playing piano for about a year. He just loves this book. He took the book right from my hand and started using it himself immediately and then asked me if the book could just be his. I loved the fact that he found it enjoyable, that he could do it on his own, and that it serves as a tool to get him to play and practice more. I'd really consider this book if you are thinking of getting started on a piano. The way the book is laid out, you can get pretty far along and the best thing is that you can do it on your own timetable. I think once you got started, though, you'd get pretty hooked!

So many keys make it so intimidating. "The Everything Piano Book: From Popular Songs to Classical Music - Learn to Play in No Time" is a piano teaching guide that encourages would be piano players with simple and incrementally complex lessons for readers to help them slowly and steadily gain a grasp of piano playing. From the simplicity of Mary Had a Little Lamb to the complexities of Chopin, "The Everything Piano Book" comes with an accompanying CD to help students along, making for a solid and highly recommended package.

Excellent for Beginners,
This review is from: The Everything Piano Book with CD: From popular songs to classical music - learn to play in no time (Everything (Music)) (Paperback)
I have tried other Piano books and this one tops them all. Not only does it teach you how to easily read musical notes but also all the proper positions for your fingers as you progress through the levels of difficulty, which is very helpful when just having a book to read and not a teacher to sit next to you. The book was not slow like other piano books I have tried, you actually feel like you are progressing and not just stuck at one level for too long. I also enjoyed the education the book gave me before you start to learn how to play, which made me feel more comfortable that choosing to learn the piano was the right choice for me. Recommended buy for any beginner.

Be careful and check CD before buying,
This review is from: The Everything Piano Book with CD: From popular songs to classical music - learn to play in no time (Everything (Music)) (Paperback)
If you buy it in a store, check to see if the CD looks like it's wedged too far into the binding. I had a hard time sliding it out of its sleeve until I realized it was glued into the binding. I carefully pulled it out, only to discover the edge was "eaten" (sort of flat on that edge) and not salvageable.
There are better ways to contain a CD and after buying several music books, they should copy the way they do it (best is soft plastic sleeve). |
