Generic but informative,
By John Readit "hilu" (Kaneohe, HI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Everything Rottweiler Book: A Complete Guide to Raising, Training, and Caring for Your Rottweiler (Everything (Pets)) (Paperback)
I do not currently own a rottie, but bought this book in order to get informed as to whether this would be the right breed for our family. There is no doubt the author used a template layout to the format this book. By this I mean in a number of places I can see where rottweiler was simply was put in place of say german shepherd. Not that this is necessarily bad, given that a number of breeds have some characteristic in common. The generic format aside, this is an informative book for beginners, however it could have been written in fewer pages given some of the repetitive nature of text. The four stars are based on the fact that this is an easy read (read in a single afternoon) and that it did provide me with some tidbits of new information. However, if we end up getting a rottie (which we probably will), I plan on getting a more comprehensive manual that addresses this breed in more detail. BTW... I normally do not respond to trollers, but the review by "masterlayout" is totally out of bounds. I think most folks can see for themselves that this is completely bogus. But for those of you who do not, please disregard his/her comments as to how a rottweiler should behave. As a repeat quote from a number of reputable books and websites on dogs... "there are no bad dogs, just bad owners."

I love this book! My only downfall was when I opened it a few pages fell out but other than that I would recommend this product because I feel I just got a bad book out of the bunch.

Do you want to have a puddle or a Rottweiler?,
By masterlayouts (Bangkok, Thailand) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Everything Rottweiler Book: A Complete Guide to Raising, Training, and Caring for Your Rottweiler (Everything (Pets)) (Paperback)
I've bought a few basic books about Rottweilers to teach my dog the basics. I am very happy to say that I have a wonderful puddle, not a Rottweiler! He is a wonderful companion dog (for old ladies), not aggressive, very sociable,...etc. Do not "abuse" your dog, don't kick him, don't make him be scared of you...etc. Really? I wouldn't recommend the "operant conditioning" as described in these books, unless you want a really stupid dog with no balls at all.
