Well, she's done it again. Belinda Hulin's Everything Soup, Stew & Chili cookbook is a must for the serious or not so serious cook. I was sold when I read the first chapter, and I hadn't even gotten to the recipes yet! In it she covers a multitude of helpful and fascinating topics, beginning with the evolution of soups and stews and ending with cautions on safety.
None of my adventures begin or end in the kitchen. I don't like to spend a lot of time preparing meals, but I do love to eat, and Ms. Hulin's Soup, Stew & Chili cookbook satisfies all my requirements.
The book is laid out in a simple, easy-to-understand manner. A quick glance to the left column gives you the ingredients with no nonsense instructions on the right for putting everything together to produce dishes welcome on any table.
I can hardly believe I actually made little pork pies. Delicious pork pies, I might add, and her history and directions for making Cincinnati chili have done nothing if they haven't improved my marriage to a true blue Cincinnati native. All these years I've heard about Cincinnati chili and now I can make it not one, not two, but five ways!
I can't recommend the book too highly, even to those more adventurous in the kitchen than I.

Just in time for fall, Adam's Media releases The Everything Soup, Stew & Chili Cookbook by Belinda Hulin. It is the latest in Adam's EVERYTHING Cookbook series. This makes the third book Hulin has penned in the series.

For her latest compilation Hulin has collected and/or created 300 recipes that range from classic to avant garde. Among the traditional you'll find Italian Wedding Soup, Chicken Tortilla Soup, and Creole Seafood Gumbo. Some of the new fangled samples are Warm Apple Cranberry Stew and Pizza Stew.

Among the fifteen chapters you'll find one devoted just to chicken soup variations, two dedicated to chili (All-American and International) and even one chapter of kid friendly recipes. There's even a chapter of dessert soups.

In addition to the 300 recipes Hulin has also packed a wealth of knowledge including a list of proper soup making equipment. The tome is also packed with information and tips to make your soup making experience more enjoyable. But for me the best part were the mini-essays that take one through proper stock and broth production and a wealth of historical background on the evolution of soups.

The Everything Soup, Stew & Chili Cookbook is an excellent addition to any cookbook collection especially one that is missing a soup anthology.

My family and I are all passing around and sharing this cookbook. Even though it's in the really hot part of summer, we've tried a few of the chili recipes and we've liked them a lot. We are huge chili nuts so of course that would be our start in this book. Grab the cookbook, we enjoy it, I think you would too.

I bought this ebook for my Kindle because it was free, but was very happily surprised to see what a thorough cookbook it is. It gives so many recipes for stews, soups and chilis, that I would recommend it even if it wasn't free. You can't get a better guide than this on all kinds of soups, stews, and chilis. I found the Kindle table of contents very easy to navigate. I can't wait to make a recipe.

I have only read the first chapter and fell in love with this book. The depth about soups, stews, and chilis is great. I have been cooking for far too many years and I found out more about these subjects than I already new. this will be a great addition to my cookbook stash and it won't take up room on the book shelf.

What a handy reference this book is! I liked the layout of the book and the tips. The book starts out with an explanation of the things you'll need in order to make a variety of soups, and even if you cook regularly the tips are helpful. They also give a few tips on using a crockpot, which a lot of people try to do but it can be tricky when it comes to soups. The tips in this book will help that.

I like the overall layout of the book, with recipes divided up into various sections by protein. I really thought there was a nice variety of different recipes that most people probably hadn't heard of. Good resource.

Pros: Linked Table of Conterts to each chapter at the front ... Linked Sub-ToC to each recipe at the beginning of each chapter ... List of ingredients are text and searchable rather than an image or a table like some kindle-ized cookbooks ... No obvious typos noted in browsing

Cons: No illustrations if the original had them ... Some hyphenations were not removed ... No page breaks between recipes as I think would be better for the kindle ... Lacks a linked (or any) alphabetized index which would be a very useful feature

Content: After a brief random browse I say ... the explanatory and background material is very interesting ala Joy of Cooking ... The recipes offer both all from scratch and shortcut types ... The instructions are clear ... Many familiar and more exotic offerings exist ... It sounds delicious

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. It's not what you'd call a page turner, but given that it's ultimately a recipe book, it held my attention really well. The allegory's of soups, etc, were really wonderful and added a lot to the book. I've tried several recipes already and have been very happy with how they've turned out (the chicken stock was especially lovely). I happened to download this book when it was free on Kindle, but I would gladly pay for it. Highly recommend it!
