nothing sucks about this album,
This review is from: Everything Sucks (Audio CD)
The Descendents' previous album Milo Goes To College was great, and The Descendents' new album, Everything Sucks is even better! All of the songs are classic original punk rock songs, and they have shown there true colours and proved how good they actually are. The first song, Everything Sucks, Coffee Mug, and Sick-O-Me are great songs, along with all of the others on the album, but the best song, and the reason I bought the album is I'm The One, which is legendary and will go down as one of the best songs in the history of punk rock. I would seriously consider buying Everything Sucks, because once you put it in your CD Player, it will be hard to take out (because it is a good album, not because it will jam your CD Player).- E d d y

Wow, The Descendents! What else is there to really say? This band is amazing, I love all their work. This is probably their best release. Every song on here is classic. I never find myself skipping on. Descendents are just one of those punk/pop-punk bands whos melodic fast paced songs just stick into your head. I love how they can play fast in your face punk rock, then transition into a more melodic pop-punk styling. Milo Aukerman is one of my favorite lyricists because he's simple, catchy, and gets his point accross. He's very good at catching my attention. Plus this guy is no dummy, he went to college and majored in biochemistry. wow, fantastic eh?. He really goes through things a lot of guys can relate to, like girls (haha), growing old, love for coffee, and that's just to name a few. Their guitarist Stephen Egerton has got this distinct sound, thats almost amazing, I dont know what it is, but i love his fast chord progressions, and his sound is just very unique in a way, its raw yet polished..??? i cant explain it. Sure he isnt a Clapton or Hendrix, but thats no reason to say I dont like him. Bill Stevenson is a solid drummer, dishing out great punk/pop-punk beats. Karl, their bassist always gets to me with his intro on "Caught". All four of these men are in their own bracket. I feel they are one of the best punk bands out there. Black and The Descendents are my favorite punk bands ever. This album shines. So pick it up, along with Milo Goes, Somery, and ALL, DESCENDENTS = GOODNESS. Highlights of this album are "We", Sick O Me, Caught, This Place, When I Get Old, Hateful Notebook, Coffee Mug, She Loves Me, and my favorite song Rotting Out, overall this album wont dissapoint anybody who is a fan of punk or pop-punk for that matter.

What Pop/Punk Is Supposed to Sound Like,
By
This review is from: Everything Sucks (Audio CD)
The Descendents have remained a pop/punk band through the years, never giving up they're loud original sound. Being the inspiration to many bands (examples being: Blink 182, The Ataris) is what first attracted me to this great band, and then I found out that Milo Aukerman (Vocals) is a scientist. I was like "Whoa, how awesome is that?!" Standout tracks include "I'm the One", "When I get Old", and "Sick-O-Me". "She Loves me" is another song that appeals to me, not just for the outstanding instrumentals, but the lyrics are what first appealed to me. It shows both sides of love: the good kind and the bad. This CD shows off some of Milo's greatest lyrics to date. This CD deserves way more than 5 stars. Buy it!

Surprisingly Good,

"Milo Goes To College" is a masterpiece of pop-punk, but the after that the Descendents are sort of hit and miss. This album, however, is great and I was quite surprised. I guess it helps that Bill, Karl, and Stephen kept playing together in All, even though I'm not a fan of that band. A lot of punk bands got back together in the late '90's and played the nostalgia game without being able to pull off anything new worthwhile. This album came out, though, and kicked some... Milo sounds great, of course, and the band's got an album full of good to great songs ("Everything Sux", "Thank You", "Rotting Out" and "I'm The One" quickly come to mind) to welcome fans back with. I would have preferred that the original line up (Milo, Bill, Tony Lombardo, and Frank Navetta) got together to do this (they do all appear on one song, "Doghouse", which is a great track). That would have seemed more authentic to me than the same three guys with one singer called All changing vocalists and calling themselves the Descendents (I am aware that Stephen and Karl were in the Descendents before All) but they made a good album, so I can overlook it.

A definitive Pop-Punk album,

This is what Pop-Punk should sound like. Not the Ataris, not Good Charlotte, not any band that cares more about their hair than their music. It's almost wrong to label this album as Pop-Punk, since it has such a hard edge to it and is far above the rest of the watered down garbage that the major labels are dishing out in large quantites. They are honest, unlike most bands disgracing the style they are responsible for. If you like the Descendents, then this is an essential... some of the best songwriting of their career. If you don't like the Descendents, you need to. They can't help that Hot Topic geeks are butchering their sound.

One of their best ALLbums,
By Daniel Fyffe (Seattle) - See all my reviews

This is the best thing to come out by Descendents/All since Allroy Saves. This record returns to the harder edged sound that the band displayed as the Descendents without just rehashing their old material. Those who favored the Descendents' short silly songs like "I like Food," and "Van" will enjoy "Coffee Mug," and "Eunuch Boy." Most of the rest of the record resembles tunes like "Jean is Dead," and "Coolidge."Those who accuse the Descendents of sounding the "power pop" bands of today should bear in mind that the newer bands copied the Descendents' sound, not vice-versa. If you liked the Descendents for songs by teenagers for teenagers about farts, parents, and high school, then don't buy this. If you liked the hard, fast Descendents sound, but like All for the way their lyrics relate to real adult life and relationships, then this album will give you the best of both worlds.

No disapointment,
This review is from: Everything Sucks (Audio CD)
"One of my all-time favorite bands are back together and have a new album out...and it made me nervous. I was afraid that this "reunion album" wouldn't be up to par and might actually end up tarnishing the Descendents name. Well, I'm happy to report that Everything Sucks does not disappoint. Although it sounds like the current All lineup (Dave Navetta and Tony Lombardo lend a little hand, too) with Milo on vocals, it's pretty much Descendents like you remember: fast, energetic, and singing about girls and coffee. (Okay, so it's more than that...) The first five songs give you the impression that Everything Sucks is perfect, and even though it isn't (there are a couple sub-par songs, like "Doghouse"), it's pretty close: "I'm the One" and "Sick-O-Me" are future classics; "When I Get Old" is a slower song but still rocks; "Coffee Mug" is a spastic 30-second ode to caffeine in the same ballpark as "Kids"; and don't miss the "hidden" instrumental after the last track. I don't know if Bill, Stephen & Karl were saving material for this album or if working with Milo rejuvinated them, but this is their best stuff since Allroy's Revenge."

GRRRREAT!!!!!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Everything Sucks (Audio CD)
For the most part, this CD is a good example of four(i think:)guys that just plain want to play music and rock out all day. I think it's annoying when people are always sitting there and complaining about so-called "sell-outs" and how a band's album might sound a little different or something and they don't like it, or something. I say a lot of that is just talk and really not much of anything that makes any difference to say. From a music standpoint, "Everything sucks" is an excellent CD, at least to my mind, although it is pretty short and leaves a bit to be desired of its content. Even so, it's still great and full of very interesting-and sometimes funny-lyrics and observations on things we all have probably felt every once in a while, or something. "Everything sucks", "I'm the one", "Coffee Mug", "Rotting Out" and, I'd say almost all of these songs(maybe even the odd but laughter-friendly "Doghouse",maybe:) are examples of this. I, as a music fan and listener, think this is a kick-ass disc, and will probably go out and buy a few of their past albums to hear more of this so-far attention-worthy band, but that's just me. I like it, and that's it. I don't know about what other people think as opposed to my views, but in my opinion if you don't like it, it's okay. You are you. I am me. And that's life, pretty much. Just like this CD. Leighter skaters.......

This album showcases a more mature sound for the Descendents, after Milo Aukerman returns from college. It however will not disappoint. It is a great album from start to finish, and certain tracks do remind you of their earlier days. My favorite tracks on the album are I'm the One, Let Me Let You, We, and Thank You. Coffee Mug is a great song as well for those used to the Descendent's earlier sound. Do yourself a favor and get this album.

Not Popular Punk, but Pop Punk!!!,
By
This review is from: Everything Sucks (Audio CD)
This band defenatly falls under the genre of punk with pop elements. Thats not a bad thing either, there are many bands out there that succesfully pull this off. Ill make this breif, all the songs are good. Buy this, you'll be happy you did, this is what pop punk (or punk in general) should sound like. Enough Said.
